About The Position

KBR is seeking a Director of Engineering to serve as the technical leader for the Mission Software capability area within the Office of the CTO. This leader will define technical direction, reference architectures, and delivery standards for mission software investments across the IR&D portfolio and provide technical guidance for select capture efforts and program execution activities. This role serves as the primary steward of the Mission Software Initiative, including roadmap execution, IR&D alignment, customer engagement, and technical integration across programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 12+ years of experience developing or integrating embedded mission systems software for defense, space, intelligence, or national security programs.
  • Demonstrated expertise in: Open Mission Systems (OMS), FACE, MOSA
  • Demonstrated expertise in: Cloud native mission applications (AWS GovCloud, Azure Government)
  • Demonstrated expertise in: DevSecOps toolchains (GitLab/Azure DevOps, IaC, containerization, Kubernetes)
  • Demonstrated expertise in: Software assurance, cyber compliance, RMF integration
  • Demonstrated expertise in: Real time/near real time mission systems
  • Proven leadership in designing and scaling secure, reliable, and interoperable software architectures across complex programs.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and communicate technical concepts clearly to customers, executives, and non technical audiences.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance; U.S. citizenship required

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Experience in one or more mission domains: ISR, autonomy, space operations, EW, C2, cyber, or tactical aviation.
  • Familiarity with MBSE, digital engineering environments, or mission modeling/simulation.
  • Experience with exportability strategies, releasability planning, and coalition ready mission software.
  • Relevant certifications: AWS/Azure Architect, Security+, CISSP, SAFe, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Mission Software Initiative, defining and managing execution of multiple projects and related roadmap elements.
  • Track initiative KPIs, technical milestones, risks, resourcing needs, and alignment to Mission Tech Technology Strategy and 2030 objectives.
  • Coordinate with other initiative leads to ensure cohesive enterprise advancement.
  • Review IR&D proposals related to mission software for feasibility, desirability, and strategic impact.
  • Shape IR&D investments around open architectures, cloud scale mission software, and future ready mission capabilities.
  • Provide technical leadership for captures and pursuits involving mission systems, OMS/FACE, mission applications, autonomy frameworks, and digital enabled C2.
  • Engage with customers to shape technical requirements, architecture options, and integration pathways.
  • Mentor engineers across BUs in mission architecture, DevSecOps, software assurance, digital engineering, and platform agnostic integration approaches.
  • Sponsor and contribute to Communities of Practice, capability catalogs, reusable software patterns, and enterprise knowledge management.
  • Define and propagate best practices in DevSecOps across programs —including CI/CD automation, software assurance, test harnesses, secure coding policies, and cloud orchestration approaches.
