About The Position

The Director of Engineering, Digital Platform Engineering will lead the transformation of the Digital Engineering organization into an AI-native engineering organization. The role directs architecture, solutioning, and operational evolution of digital platforms and software engineering teams, advancing digital experiences and an AI-enabled Software Development Lifecycle (AI-SDLC). The director will shape platform strategy and multi-agent system architectures, including the harnesses, context layers, gateways, and developer platforms that connect enterprise AI and data services to customer-facing experiences. The role will also introduce AI-assisted coding, automated workflows, and AI-driven testing to improve developer experience, delivery quality, engineering velocity, and efficiency. The position partners with digital product management and the Enterprise AI & Data organization to support measurable outcomes in e-commerce conversion, loyalty engagement, and CRM retention. This position is eligible for hybrid working arrangements and requires on-site work from an Insulet office. The U.S.-based annual base salary range is $205,800 to $308,700, and the role may also be eligible for incentive compensation.

  • 10 or more years of progressive technology leadership experience.
  • Deep background in distributed systems, global API management, and high-traffic e-commerce architectures.
  • 5 or more years managing teams focused on platform engineering, SDLC automation, and full-stack software development.
  • Proven record of driving enterprise-scale technology transformations.
  • Experience partnering successfully with centralized Data or AI organizations in a matrixed environment.
  • Deep expertise in enterprise API management platforms, LLM gateways, internal developer portals, and cloud-native infrastructure, including Kubernetes and serverless patterns.
  • Strong hands-on architectural understanding of AI harness design, multi-agent system architectures, enterprise context engineering, and RAG patterns.
  • Fluency with agentic-SDLC implementations, policy-as-code frameworks, CI/CD orchestration, and enterprise observability platforms.
  • Product-engineering mindset and ability to connect platform architecture to digital revenue, customer conversion, and loyalty.
  • Exceptional executive communication skills, including the ability to translate complex technical architectures into business value for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong focus on developer experience and removing software-engineering friction through AI and automation.

Responsibilities

  • Direct engineering teams responsible for platforms powering web engagement, loyalty and retention systems, and CRM integrations, modernizing the cloud-native stack.
  • Design and deploy gateways to route, rate-limit, and secure digital traffic and provide highly available connections to backend models, agents, and tools.
  • Architect scalable multi-agent frameworks that orchestrate complex, multi-step customer journeys in the application layer.
  • Implement automated, policy-as-code practices to ensure customer-facing AI features meet latency, security, data privacy, and brand-safety standards before production.
  • Build context and harness engineering capabilities to retrieve, format, and securely route real-time CRM, loyalty, and web-engagement context to LLMs.
  • Develop application-layer capabilities for conversational commerce, intelligent product discovery, and dynamic personalization across digital touchpoints.
  • Partner with digital product management to align platform capabilities with e-commerce conversion, loyalty engagement, and CRM retention metrics.
  • Lead the transition to an AI-SDLC by rolling out AI-assisted coding tools, automated workflows, and AI-driven testing.
  • Measure and improve engineering velocity and platform reliability using DORA metrics, developer-experience indicators, and operational transparency.
  • Unify the digital technology stack through a governed, self-service developer portal and provide secure, budget-aware paths for engineers to build and deploy AI features.
  • Serve as the primary digital-platform consumer and strategic partner of the Enterprise AI & Data organization, applying its foundational data and AI services to customer experiences.
  • Establish operating rhythms, API contracts, and shared SLAs with partner organizations while avoiding duplicated engineering efforts.
