Director, Applied AI - (Hybrid - Acton, MA)
About The Position
The Director, Applied AI will lead the strategy, design, delivery, and adoption of AI solutions across Insulet’s Quality, Global Operations, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Medical, Clinical, Regulatory, and Post-Market functions. The role translates business opportunities into scalable AI and data products intended to improve quality, compliance, operational performance, decision-making, and patient outcomes. As a leader within the Enterprise AI and Data organization, this position combines applied AI expertise, product leadership, regulated-industry judgment, business partnership, delivery leadership, and change management. The Director will move AI and analytics use cases from idea to measurable business impact, ensuring solutions are appropriately validated, integrated into daily workflows, and supported by foundational data and platforms. The role includes leading cross-functional teams and developing product, analytics, and AI capabilities. It also involves promoting responsible AI practices, establishing risk-based governance for regulated use cases, and driving organizational change so solutions are trusted, adopted, monitored, and continuously improved. The position is eligible for hybrid working arrangements and requires on-site work from an Insulet office.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in computer science, engineering, data science, analytics, operations research, biomedical engineering, life sciences, business, or a related field.
- 12+ years of experience leading cross-functional teams and delivering enterprise-scale data, analytics, automation, or AI products.
- Strong understanding of applied AI, machine learning, generative AI, large language models, AI agents, RAG, computer vision, predictive models, optimization, and workflow automation.
- Demonstrated ability to lead AI products from ideation through MVP, production deployment, adoption, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
- Strong product leadership, executive communication, stakeholder-management, and change-management capabilities in complex environments.

- Experience in healthcare, medical devices, life sciences, diabetes care, manufacturing, supply chain, quality, medical affairs, clinical, regulatory, or post-market surveillance.
- Experience with validated systems, regulated data, quality-management processes, complaint handling, adverse-event reporting, manufacturing operations, or operational excellence.
- Familiarity with platforms such as AWS, Azure, Databricks, Snowflake, ServiceNow, ERP, quality-management, manufacturing, laboratory, planning, or document-management ecosystems.
Responsibilities
- Define high-value AI opportunities across Quality, Global Operations, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Medical, Clinical, Regulatory, and Post-Market activities.
- Facilitate AI opportunity workshops, use-case prioritization sessions, solution-design discussions, and executive readouts.
- Translate ambiguous business challenges into structured AI opportunities, hypotheses, experiments, MVPs, and scalable products.
- Partner with senior business leaders to create product charters, value cases, roadmaps, and delivery plans.
- Work with Finance and business owners to quantify benefits such as quality and compliance improvements, productivity gains, cycle-time reduction, cost reduction, operational resilience, and patient outcomes.
- Partner with functional teams to translate business questions into AI-enabled products and redesign workflows to embed AI into daily operations.
- Define product users, pain points, business outcomes, MVP scope, adoption plans, and product roadmaps.
- Advance AI-enabled capabilities such as complaint and adverse-event analysis, reportability support, quality-event triage, investigation assistance, signal detection, document intelligence, predictive maintenance, yield and scrap optimization, planning, and operational decision support.
- Apply generative AI, machine learning, computer vision, optimization, simulation, AI agents, and workflow automation where appropriate.
- Lead cross-functional data and AI teams through discovery, validation, production deployment, adoption, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure AI outputs are actionable and integrated into quality, medical, manufacturing, supply chain, operational, and business-review workflows.
- Drive adoption through training, communication, workflow integration, support, and continuous feedback.
- Ensure AI solutions comply with Insulet’s responsible AI principles, privacy and security standards, quality-system requirements, and medical-device industry expectations.
- Establish risk-based governance and validation practices for use cases involving patient safety, product quality, regulatory reporting, medical activities, and regulated data.
- Promote responsible generative AI practices, including prompt management, output validation, source traceability, content safety, auditability, monitoring, and user accountability.
- Define guardrails for human-in-the-loop review, decision rights, escalation, auditability, and safe AI use in regulated workflows.
- Lead, coach, and develop Product Leaders, Data Scientists, AI Engineers, analytics professionals, and cross-functional delivery teams.
- Build and scale applied AI, analytics, and product-management capabilities by attracting, developing, retaining, and mentoring talent.
- Influence stakeholders across business functions and technical teams to align priorities and drive execution.
- Drive organizational change for AI adoption through communication, stakeholder engagement, training, and executive alignment.
