The Director of Engineering and Plant Operations plans, organizes, coordinates and directs the operations of the Engineering, Maintenance and Grounds departments. Serves in the role of Safety Officer for the hospital. Maintains compliance with applicable regulatory agency requirements, including: The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), State and Local agencies, The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), etc. Plans, projects, maintains and oversees the repair of building and equipment, including scheduled maintenance. Manages design, construction, and infrastructure projects. Complies with UHS design and construction policy and, when appropriate, works with the assigned project manager or regional facilities manager on large projects. Utilizes energy management and tracking tools to maintain efficient utility operations. Effectively manages long range capital infrastructure replacements. Keeps equipment lists up to date and works with hospital finance and Regional Finance to budget and complete replacement projects. Develops and manages operating and capital budgets. May also manage the Biomedical Engineering, Safety and Security departments. Manages staff and contractors to ensure and maintain the efficient and safe operation of all hospital buildings. Manages the cost effective and efficient utilization of vendors and contractors. Completes monthly variance reports and forecasts in a timely manner.
