About The Position

Within the Community Capacity Building (CCB) team, the Jewish & Israel Engagement team drives UJA’s efforts to foster a proud and strong Jewish identity and participation across the community. Through strategic planning, targeted grantmaking, and deep partnerships, the team develops and supports opportunities for individuals and families to connect meaningfully with Jewish life - while also helping to address issues of affordability, inclusion, and sustainability across the Jewish engagement ecosystem. Reporting to the Vice President, Jewish Engagement, the Director will play a key role in the department’s work as it strives to achieve the goals set by UJA’s strategic plan. A core member of the Jewish & Israel Engagement leadership team, the Director will help shape and lead initiatives that strengthen field-wide infrastructure while also supporting programming and grassroots engagement efforts.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree required, Masters degree an asset
  • 5-10 years’ Experience in Jewish engagement, education, or communal leadership
  • Passionate advocate and visible champion of UJA’s mission, values, and goals, inspiring others through action and unwavering commitment to advancing our shared purpose.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, including experience working with lay leaders and diverse partners
  • Experience in program development, planning, and grant management
  • Strong communication skills—written, verbal, and presentation
  • Deep knowledge of the Jewish community in Toronto and/or other major Jewish communities
  • Familiarity with best practices and emerging trends in Jewish engagement

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies in core sectors such as Jewish summer camping, early childhood education, Part-Time Jewish education, Israel experiences, and engagement with older adults
  • Work with partner organizations, identifying gaps and opportunities, and supporting the field through convening, capacity-building, and strategic investments
  • Deepen UJA’s partnership with community lay leaders and bringing together broader coalitions to address challenges and pursue new opportunities
  • Play a leadership role in guiding lay tables, fostering collaboration, and encouraging innovative thinking across the engagement ecosystem
  • In partnership with internal and external stakeholders, develop and manage a robust grantmaking portfolio
  • Define impact metrics and evaluate program outcomes
  • Work closely with program partners and philanthropic stakeholders to surface ideas, co-develop strategies, and ensure alignment with UJA’s long-term goals
