About The Position

The Director of Educational Products and Services is responsible for understanding and adhering to ISA's mission and core values, contributing to the strategic plan, and establishing and monitoring departmental goals. This role involves providing leadership to the team, overseeing the entire product lifecycle from concept to delivery, and managing business plans and budgets. The Director will incorporate adult learning principles into curriculum development for various learning formats, analyze data for project planning and program monitoring, and prepare reports for the CEO & executive director. Key aspects include overseeing program and project development based on member needs, managing ISA's serial publications, protecting intellectual property, and representing ISA on industry committees. The position also involves overseeing educational outreach, managing global product sales, collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders, delivering professional presentations, and serving as a liaison to ISA committees and working groups. The Director is expected to manage cross-departmental functions to ensure a positive customer experience and stay current with developments in arboriculture and educational product development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited college or university; or at least 8 years’ related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years proven experience successfully leading an educational or product development team.
  • Prior project management experience exhibiting superior organizational skills and attention to detail is required.
  • Fluent in English, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents.
  • Ability to respond diplomatically to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to write articles for various publications and audiences.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, volunteers, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to create budgets and interpret and analyze financial data.
  • Strong project management.
  • Strong personnel leadership skills.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position 80% of the time.
  • Ability to move about inside the office to access items, office machinery, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Preferred MS, Training & Learning Technology; MA Education/Adult Education and Training.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Professional in Learning & Performance (CPLP) certification is a plus.
  • Technical experience working with web-based education programs, systems, database management, Learning Management Software (LMS) and general business processes related to this area is preferred.
  • Knowledge/involvement/experience with serial publications is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience in the arboriculture profession and industry is preferred.
  • Experience working internationally is a plus.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit membership association is a plus.
  • Fluency in additional languages is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Understands ISA’s Mission and adheres to organization and staff core values.
  • Contributes to the creation and implementation of the ISA strategic plan as defined by the ISA Ends Policies established by the Board of Directors, and establishes, coordinates and monitors departmental goals and initiatives in support of that plan.
  • Provides guidance and leadership to the team while helping them to meet departmental goals and foster an environment of continuous improvement.
  • Oversees ISA product lifecycle from concept to delivery.
  • Develops and manages business plans, departmental and project budgets.
  • Incorporates proven adult learning principles for curriculum for classroom learning, online learning, virtual and remote learning that support ISA’s certifications and qualifications as well as ISA’s organizational strategy and mission.
  • Analyzes data to synthesize project plans and to monitor programs and projects, to ensure that organizational objectives are met.
  • Prepares progress reports, annual reports, update presentations, analyses, and evaluations of departmental projects and programs for the CEO & executive director.
  • Oversees program and project development based upon the needs of ISA members and credential holders.
  • Oversees ISA serial publications such as Arborist News and Arboriculture and Urban Forestry.
  • Protects and fortifies ISA’s scientific, peer review standards and best management practices.
  • Oversees copyright protection and permissions processes to protect ISA’s intellectual property.
  • Represents ISA on various industry committees and on project teams ensuring successful end products and/or results.
  • Oversees ISA’s educational outreach work, including the educational and policy component of the ISA Tree Climbing Championship series as well as the development of the educational programming for ISA Conferences and other events in partnership with the ISA Marketing and Communications Department.
  • Manages and ensures growth of ISA’s global product sales and the successful fulfillment of those sales.
  • Works with EPS staff, volunteers, ISA chapters, associate organizations and professional affiliates, and outside vendors to develop, maintain, and deliver ISA educational products and services.
  • Travel and deliver professional presentations to diverse audiences about ISA and our products.
  • Works with and serves as liaison to several ISA committees, editorial boards, review teams, and working groups to advance ISA objectives.
  • Works with other staff directors in managing cross-departmental functions, especially in terms of providing a positive customer experience whenever possible.
  • Stays abreast of developments in arboriculture and educational product development professions.
  • Management responsibilities include interviewing, hiring decisions, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; resolving conflict and promoting positive employee relations in a collaborative work environment.
