About The Position

A Director of Education and Professional Development designs and oversees learning strategies to upskill staff or association members. They lead curriculum development, manage training teams, monitor program effectiveness, ensure regulatory compliance, and align educational programming with overarching organizational goals. This position reports to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) with matrix to VP of Human Resources.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Education, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is typically required.
  • Typically 5 to 10 years of progressive experience in instructional design, adult learning, and staff development, including several years in a managerial or director role.
  • Experience in various clinical areas preferred.
  • Certification in BLS and ACLS.
  • Must possess excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Must be able to work autonomously and have computer skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Previous management experience preferred.
  • Must possess Licensure for the State of New York as a Licensed Registered Nurse or other licensure with the state of New York.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of clinical protocol, procedures, and standards within the area of nursing expertise.
  • Ability to provide operational guidance and leadership to technical staff in the area of specialty.
  • Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
  • Ability to assess educational needs and design and develop appropriate curricula.
  • Working knowledge of the use of established clinical and preceptorship models in the development of clinical education programs.
  • Technical leadership skills within the area of expertise.
  • Advanced nursing skills in the area of specialty.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care programs.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity to perform tasks such as typing and using office equipment.
  • Visual and auditory ability to perform job functions.
  • Capacity to handle stress and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift and move educational materials and equipment as needed.
  • Ability to travel between facilities for training and meetings as required.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with executive leadership to identify training needs and curate a roadmap for long-term organizational growth and continuous learning.
  • Oversee the development and execution of instructional materials, certifications, webinars, live workshops, and online coursework.
  • Manage, train, and evaluate education and training staff, adjunct instructors, or instructional designers.
  • Maintain stringent quality standards, ensuring all continuing education (CE) credits or organizational training comply with licensing and regulatory boards (e.g., ACCME).
  • Use learning management systems (LMS) and metrics to analyze program outcomes, gather learner feedback, and continuously refine offerings.
  • Manage the education department's budget, allocate resources efficiently, and often identify grant or alternative revenue opportunities.
