About The Position

The Director of DSHS Technology Coordination serves as the dedicated liaison between DSHS and HHSC IT, advocating for DSHS IT needs, providing oversight of IT activities, and ensuring strategic alignment between business objectives and technology solutions. This position acts as a connector, orchestrator, and navigator for IT matters across the agency and works closely with executive leadership, program managers, and stakeholders to ensure DSHS receives timely, efficient, and effective IT services. This role serves as a technical expert and resource for agency-wide technology initiatives, providing analyses and recommendations to improve systems and workflows. In this role, you will need to have a strong background in system administration, technical support, and project management with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills are required to build relationships with stakeholders, understand the needs of business operations and technology solutions, and facilitate cross functional alignment to achieve value-driven outcomes.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in information technology, computer science, business or public administration, or related field. (relevant experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis).
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience one of the following areas: IT operations including managing and supporting IT services, system administration, software and hardware deployment, and network operations.
  • Project Management including overseeing major IT projects and portfolios, analyzing and evaluating IT systems and processes, and budget oversight.
  • Experience with business process visualizations, process improvement, or business systems analysis.
  • Knowledge of public health informatics, large-scale IT operations, and industry trends; business and management principles, project management, change management, and budgetary processes.
  • Skill in systems analysis, technical documentation, strategic planning, and fiscal oversight; stakeholder engagement, problem-solving, and consensus-building.
  • Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions and roadmaps; exercise sound judgment, make critical decisions, and manage competing priorities; analyze complex IT/business needs and develop creative, workable solutions; build trust and facilitate collaboration between IT and business areas; prepare and present analyses, recommendations, and visual documentation to leadership, stakeholders, and non-technical audiences; oversee and/or supervise the work of others.
