About The Position

The Director of Domestic Adoption provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and program development for all domestic adoption services. This position is responsible for ensuring high-quality adoption services for birth parents, adoptive families, and children while maintaining compliance with agency policies, state and federal regulations, and accreditation standards. The Director also oversees the Transitional Care volunteer program. The Director serves as a key member of leadership and works collaboratively across departments to support the organization’s mission, vision, and long-term goals.

Requirements

Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Human Services, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
Three to five years of progressive leadership experience in adoption services, child welfare, social services, or a related field.
Strong knowledge of domestic adoption practices, child welfare regulations, and licensing standards.
Demonstrated leadership, strategic planning, and organizational management experience.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and case management or database systems.
LCPAA or ability to obtain certification in 6 months.

Nice To Haves

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or other relevant professional licensure preferred.
Experience managing multi-site or statewide programs and teams.
Strong knowledge of domestic adoption laws, licensing requirements, and accreditation standards.
Experience with budget management, financial oversight, and strategic planning.

Responsibilities

Provide oversight and leadership for all domestic adoption programs and services.
Develop and implement strategic initiatives that support organizational growth and service excellence.
Ensure all adoption services are delivered in alignment with the organization’s mission, values, and standards of care.
Monitor program outcomes, service quality, and operational effectiveness to ensure continuous improvement.
Collaborate with leadership on organizational planning, policy development, and long-term strategic goals.
Represent the organization in professional, community, and industry-related meetings and events.
Directly supervise staff within the domestic adoption division.
Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate staff to ensure strong performance and professional development.
Promote a positive and collaborative work environment focused on accountability, communication, and service excellence.
Ensure staff are providing quality customer service and support throughout the adoption process.
Support employee engagement initiatives and foster a culture of teamwork and compassion.
Oversee the delivery of services to adoptive families, birth parents, and children from intake through post-placement supervision.
Ensure ethical adoption practices and compliance with all applicable licensing, accreditation, and legal requirements.
Review and address complex client situations, escalated concerns, and service-related issues.
Serve as the primary point of contact and supervisor for transitional care parents.
Ensure that all training and file are in compliance for transitional care parents.
Maintain high standards for documentation, case management, and client confidentiality.
Evaluate program effectiveness and implement enhancements to improve client experience and outcomes.
Assist in the development and management of departmental budgets.
Monitor departmental expenditures and ensure responsible financial stewardship.
Collaborate with leadership regarding resource allocation, forecasting, and operational planning.
Analyze operational data and prepare reports for executive leadership and board review.
Ensure operational practices align with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
Build and maintain relationships with community partners, referral sources, healthcare providers, attorneys, and adoption professionals.
Support outreach, education, and advocacy efforts related to domestic adoption services.
Serve as a spokesperson and representative of the organization when appropriate.
Participate in professional organizations and maintain awareness of industry trends and best practices.
Perform other duties and special projects assigned to support organizational objectives and enhance operational efficiency.
