About The Position

Travelers is seeking a Director of Software Engineering to join our organization as we grow and transform our Technology landscape. Individual will complete advanced software end to end engineering tasks that span many parts of a system including designing, developing, analyzing, configuring, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, documenting, health monitoring/alerting, and implementing based on user or system specifications. Individual will also consult with users to determine hardware, software or system functional specifications, manage the effective use of resources, act as subject matter expert across multiple applications, systems and technologies, leverage technical and business knowledge to drive the planning and execution of complex initiatives, participate in the design/ development process, and provide technical leadership, while leading a team of SWE.

Requirements

• 5 years of related experience; including insurance / financial services industry experience.
• Hands-on experience with GitHub Actions or equivalent enterprise pipeline tooling.
• Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating release management processes across multiple concurrent workstreams in a large enterprise environment.
• Demonstrated experience implementing current technology trends and techniques (e.g., cloud-based solutions leveraging microservices).
• Interprets internal/ external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve SDLC processes.
• Demonstrated experience designing, managing, and optimizing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or equivalent tooling; ability to drive pipeline standardization and maturity across multiple engineering teams.
• Proven track record establishing and enforcing release management processes, including change advisory oversight, release calendaring, and go/no-go decision frameworks across complex, multi-team delivery environments.
• Familiarity with integrating security tooling (SAST, DAST, dependency scanning, secrets detection) into CI/CD pipelines; experience partnering with security teams to shift left and maintain compliance without sacrificing delivery velocity.
• Experience working with or enabling engineering teams operating on platforms such as HSP, CPC, TravPorter, and Kafka; ability to tailor DevSecOps practices to the constraints and requirements of a complex insurance technology ecosystem.
• Demonstrated ability to align and coordinate across multiple BI DevSecOps teams, driving consistency in tooling, process, and release standards while respecting team autonomy and delivery cadences.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related STEM field, or its equivalent in education and/or work experience.
• 6 additional years of software engineering experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of HR accountability for the team, including hiring, performance management, career development, compensation decisions, and fostering an inclusive, high-performing engineering culture.
• Lead a team of Software engineers by providing technical guidance and mentorship while modeling Travelers' leadership behaviors.
• Direct complex design, development, analysis, configuration, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, documenting, health monitoring/alerting, and implementation based on user or system specifications for impactful and high-visibility tasks.
• Lead investigation and resolution efforts for critical, high impact problems, defects, and incidents.
• Seek opportunities where technology can be utilized to improve the business and provide more efficient processes.
• Apply knowledge of current industry trends and techniques to formulate solutions for software engineering problems.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Determine the software design strategy and methodology to be used for efforts.
