About The Position

The Director of Development is part of the University Advancement and Alumni Engagement team and serves as a frontline fundraiser for the Colleges. As a development strategist and fundraiser, the Director identifies, cultivates, and solicits individual prospects and leadership donors through direct outreach, particularly focusing on securing multi-year leadership gifts of $25,000 or more. This role involves creating and implementing fundraising strategies, proposals, and related activities for Texas Woman's University (TWU) colleges and programs. The Director reports to the Vice President of University Advancement and Alumni Engagement and will be actively involved in the overall fundraising strategy, goals, initiatives, and events of University Advancement. Additionally, the Director will assist College Deans in building successful annual and major gift programs within the Colleges, expand the donor base, and foster a strong alumni community. Responsibilities include planning, designing, and implementing programs and projects to achieve fundraising goals. The Director should have a proven track record in crafting strategies, cultivating and soliciting prospects, successfully closing asks, and stewarding donors. Experience working closely with senior leadership and effectively managing and engaging volunteers is essential. The Director will also support the Vice President of University Advancement and Alumni Engagement in executing a comprehensive major campaign that aligns with the university-wide campaign initiative and is grounded in the TWU Strategic Plan. Work is performed under limited supervision and performance is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
  • Five years of successful progressively responsible experience in higher education or comparable non-profit fundraising.
  • Professional work experience in an academic/higher education setting preferred.
  • Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position.
  • All employees share the responsibility of maintaining information security and privacy requirements within the university by adhering to Federal and State regulations, and TWU Policies & Procedures.
  • Skills in a university advancement setting and/or fundraising experience for the Colleges of Nursing are preferred.
  • Skill in interpersonal communication, including strong oral and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to cultivate and steward relationships benefitting a College within the university.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective and efficient donor stewardship practices.
  • Ability to analyze data, monitor budgets and develop successful plans necessary.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously, attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Skilled in technology applications, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, CRM tools, and databases such as Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment, including related university software and email.

Responsibilities

  • Cultivates, solicits, and closes new and established leadership donors with the annual goal of 65-75 in-person or virtual meetings and proven record of raising at least $500,000. Achievement of reach goals, $1 million or more, may result in opportunities for advancement.
  • Integrates stewardship and external activities with the Vice President of University Advancement and Alumni Engagement, including volunteer engagement, alumni programming/events, stewardship programs/events, marketing, public relations, and other external functions.
  • Cultivates, solicits, closes, and stewards new and established leadership donors.
  • Manages a dynamic pool of annual and major gift prospects.
  • Provides strong leadership for fundraising professionals, staff and volunteers.
  • Continues to develop a strong annual giving program for the Texas Woman's University (TWU) Colleges.
  • Prepares and submits proposals to corporations and foundations that are interested in supporting the Colleges' priority initiatives.
  • Supports the growth of the Colleges’ prospects by annually identifying and referring to the Vice President of University Advancement through major gifts or planned gifts.
  • Stays continuously up to date on the division’s strategic vision and opportunities for philanthropic support.
  • Clearly communicates the philanthropic support priorities of the Colleges to both current and prospective donors.
  • Participates in events and activities organized by Colleges, University Advancement, and Alumni Engagement.
  • Utilizes university-wide data systems (Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge NXT) to ensure efficient and well-coordinated fundraising efforts.
  • Writes reports and creates actions on prospect activity for the Vice President of University Advancement and Alumni Engagement.
  • Attends weekend and evening activities as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
