Director of Data and Analytics

Second Front SystemsWashington, DC
$210,000 - $230,000Remote

About The Position

Second Front Systems is seeking a Director of Data & Analytics to build and lead our centralized data and analytics function from the ground up. Reporting to the VP of Finance, you will own the full data lifecycle across the company - from systems integration and data warehousing to business intelligence and advanced analytics. This is a build role, requiring comfort with ambiguity and ownership of outcomes.

Requirements

  • 8+ years in data, analytics, or business intelligence, including 3+ years leading a function, a team, or a company-wide data initiative.
  • Demonstrated experience building an analytics capability where little or none existed — you have done the zero-to-one version of this, not only operated a mature stack.
  • Advanced SQL and deep hands-on experience building with modern data stacks, such as cloud warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, or Redshift), transformation frameworks (dbt or equivalent), ingestion tooling, semantic layers, and BI platforms (Looker, Power BI, Tableau, Sigma, or similar). You do not need to have used every tool listed, but you should be capable of architecting and building across the stack.
  • Working knowledge of SaaS business and financial metrics — ARR and its movements, retention, CAC and payback, gross margin, cohort behavior — and the judgment to recognize when a metric is being calculated in a way that will not survive scrutiny.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and with owning outcomes rather than tickets.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a scaling B2B software or technology company, ideally in the ~$10M–$200M ARR/revenue range and during a period of rapid growth.
  • Experience reporting on a mixed revenue model — subscription revenue alongside government contracting (fixed-price, FAR-based) and professional services — and familiarity with the reporting expectations that come with federal or regulated-industry customers.
  • Python or R for analysis beyond what SQL handles well.

Responsibilities

  • Architect the company's data warehouse, cloud platform, pipelines, data models, and BI infrastructure to replace ad-hoc reporting with reliable, reusable assets.
  • Establish governance, definitions, and lineage for company KPIs so metrics live in one governed place and survive audit.
  • Build reporting consumed by executives, boards, or investors, with the accuracy discipline that implies.
  • Design data governance frameworks that enforce metric definitions across competing business units—finance, sales, engineering—without freezing the organization or spawning workarounds.
  • Translate between a technical implementation and a business decision, in both directions, without losing either audience.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary
  • 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents
  • 401(k) with a 3% company contribution
  • Comprehensive wellness benefits, including a One Medical membership, mental health resources, family planning support, and more
  • Equity incentive plan
  • New hire technology and home office stipend
  • Annual professional development stipend
  • Flexible paid time off, plus all federal holidays
  • Generous parental leave
  • Flexible remote work opportunities
  • Employee referral bonus program
