About The Position

Scw’exmx Child and Family Services Society (SCFSS) is seeking a strategic, culturally grounded, and community‑focused leader to serve as the Director, Culture of Caring. Reporting to the Executive Director, this senior leadership role provides strategic oversight for SCFSS’s Culture of Caring portfolio, which includes primary prevention services, community engagement, cultural and language integration, communications, and community research and development. The Director plays a critical role in advancing SCFSS’s vision of community‑driven, prevention‑focused, and culturally grounded systems of care, ensuring programs and services strengthen families, revitalize culture and language, and build long‑term community capacity. This position operates at a strategic level, guiding policy, planning, budgets, and people leadership while working closely with Managers to support implementation and service delivery.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of syilx and nłeʔkepmx traditional practices, teachings, and cultural protocols.
  • Sensitivity to the historical and systemic impacts of colonialism, including intergenerational trauma, residential schools, and the Sixties Scoop.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with experience in designing, managing, and evaluating programs using both qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and other IT platforms for documentation, reporting, and communication.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and support staff in a culturally safe, trauma-informed, and professional environment.
  • Collaborative, culturally grounded, and strategic leadership style with strong conflict resolution abilities.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to inspire and maintain high productivity in others.
  • Business and strategic acumen, particularly in Indigenous governance and service transformation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a clear Criminal Record Check and MCFD Prior Contact Check.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and provide a current driver’s abstract.
  • Willingness to travel to Member Communities and attend meetings or events as required.
  • Flexibility to work non-standard hours, including evenings and weekends, based on organizational and community needs.

  • Familiarity with ISC and/or MCFD funding environments is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the Culture of Caring portfolio, ensuring alignment with SCFSS’s Mission, Vision, Values, and Strategic Directions.
  • Lead the planning, development, and continuous improvement of primary prevention services, community programs, cultural and language initiatives, communications, and research functions.
  • Champion culturally grounded, trauma‑informed, and strengths‑based approaches rooted in nłeʔkepmx and syilx worldviews.
  • Build and maintain respectful, accountable relationships with member Communities, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community leadership.
  • Support community‑led prevention, capacity building, and jurisdiction readiness through collaboration and mentorship.
  • Provide strategic oversight of departmental budgets, funding proposals, and resource allocation.
  • Guide workforce planning, leadership development, and succession planning across the Culture of Caring portfolio.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, funding agreements, privacy legislation, and Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) requirements.
  • Represent SCFSS in leadership forums, partnerships, and community engagements as required.
