This service opportunity involves producing and directing a theatrical play or musical for school and public performances. The role requires adhering to safety guidelines, creating a production calendar in collaboration with school and VPA departments, and applying a social justice approach and equity lens in all aspects of casting and process. The Director will design and conduct recruitment/outreach programs, teach acting principles and techniques, and guide students in enunciation, diction, voice development, vocal and body expression, acting styles, character development, and personality projection. Auditions will be conducted with an equity lens, and students will be rehearsed to master their parts. Collaboration with the VPA department for support staff (choreographers, design teams, tech teams) is essential. The Director will also oversee backstage production tasks for non-performing students, manage script selection, ensure timely payment of royalties and fees, maintain accurate expense records, present budgets, secure rehearsal and performance facilities, and oversee the organization and storage of theatrical equipment. The role includes developing a rehearsal schedule and performing any other duties necessary for the success of a production.
