About The Position

Develops and executes a strategic creative vision for APH that encompasses branding, graphic design, videography, and photography services and more. The creative director’s work will build on APH’s established reputation as an international leader in the field of blindness and low vision, while ensuring APH’s brand and creative assets position the organization for continual evolution in the educational technology and museum spaces. Responsible for leading and developing a creative services team of 4-6 staff and other vendors that produce a variety of accessible multimedia materials for print, digital, social media, conferences, and The Dot Experience, APH’s newly constructed museum.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in art, graphic design, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of related professional experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Proven experience as a creative director or in a similar leadership role.
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Note: A combination of education, training, and experience may be considered when competency in the role is demonstrated.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience producing accessible media.
  • Proficiency with Asana or similar project management tools.
  • Agency and/or entrepreneurial experience.
  • Broad understanding of creative disciplines including graphic design, web development, video production, photography, and digital design.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the creative services team in developing high-quality, compelling materials (e.g., branding, collateral, advertising, packaging), including contributing directly to high-priority projects.
  • Ensure consistency of organizational branding, messaging, and positioning across all products, services, and communications.
  • Champion and uphold accessibility standards across all internal and external creative outputs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional leadership and departments to support sales, marketing, communications, and organizational initiatives.
  • Supervise and develop team members through coaching and performance management, while ensuring projects are prioritized, managed effectively with project management tools (e.g., via Asana), and delivered on time.
  • Oversee departmental operations, including process development, reporting, budgeting, and management of external vendors and partnerships.
  • Other duties as assigned.
