About The Position

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Field Placement, Outreach, & Licensure, the Director of Counseling Field Experiences provides leadership and oversight for all aspects of clinical training, field placement operations, and community-based partnership development for the Lynch School’s Counseling programs, including Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, and doctoral-level training experiences as applicable. The Director supervises professional staff and affiliated faculty supporting counseling field placement operations and collaborates closely with program leadership, faculty, and the Assistant Dean for Field Placement and Licensure to ensure high-quality clinical training experiences aligned with university standards, licensure regulations, and accreditation expectations. The Director oversees the development and management of clinical placement partnerships; advises and supports students throughout practicum and internship experiences; supervises and evaluates affiliated Practicum and Supervision faculty; and coordinates student assessment, support, and remediation processes related to clinical training and professional readiness. The role also oversees operational processes associated with affiliation agreements, practicum policies and procedures, field placement technologies, data management, accreditation reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Director maintains current knowledge of Massachusetts and national licensure and credentialing requirements and supports students and alumni through certification, endorsement, and professional compliance processes. A central responsibility of the role includes risk management and resolution of complex student, site, and professional concerns in collaboration with faculty, program leadership, university partners, and legal counsel as appropriate. The Director also contributes to strategic initiatives related to program development, operational effectiveness, alumni engagement, and clinical training innovation across counseling programs.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in clinical or counseling psychology
  • Licensed psychologist and Health Services Provider in Massachusetts
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience placing students in school and mental health settings, including supervisory experience
  • Deep knowledge of culturally responsive, equity-minded, and asset-based practices within counseling, supervision, and clinical training environments
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain complex partnerships and collaborative relationships with students, faculty, supervisors, community organizations, and external stakeholders
  • Experience supporting accreditation, assessment, compliance, and data management processes within higher education or clinical training settings
  • Ability to support students through complex or challenging field-training experiences using sound judgment, collaborative problem-solving, and student-centered practices
  • Commitment to ethical practice, professional standards, risk management, and student development within clinical and educational settings
  • Strong technology proficiency, including experience with learning management systems, practicum management platforms, reporting systems, and standard administrative software applications
  • Exceptional organizational, project management, and attention-to-detail skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse constituencies
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
