About The Position

The Director of Consumer Underwriting provides strategic oversight and manages internal operations for an assigned territory. The role ensures appropriate controls are in place to mitigate risk and supports adherence to corporate policies and procedures while pursuing operating objectives. It oversees the evaluation and decisioning of consumer offerings within Ally underwriting policies, and leads Consumer Underwriters in achieving business results and maintaining a high level of customer service. The position works with internal areas of expertise and matrix partners to identify opportunities, develop company talent, mentor staff, set annual objectives, monitor performance, and address performance concerns and employee issues. It also develops dealer opportunities, manages conquest efforts, grows Ally’s portfolio within the territory, and handles projects assigned by senior leadership. Candidates in Michigan or Illinois are expected to be within 50 miles of either the Ally Detroit Center in Detroit, Michigan, or the Downers Grove RBC in Downers Grove, Illinois. The role’s specific work arrangement is discussed during hiring and may be fully on-site, hybrid, or fully remote.

Requirements

At least 9 years of experience in underwriting and/or auto finance, or a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Leadership experience.
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Ability to provide advice and direction in primary areas of expertise.
Ability to leverage technical expertise and relationships to contribute to strategy and drive business results.
Technical knowledge, project management skills, and ability to influence others.
