About The Position

As Director of Design-Build Construction, you are a leader with a strong understanding of landscape architecture, architectural detailing, and design-build project delivery, capable of translating design intent into exceptional built work. You are responsible for delivering high-quality design-build projects while partnering closely with ownership to support the growth and continued success of the business. This role requires a unique combination of construction expertise, design sensibility, leadership, and operational excellence. You serve as a bridge between design and construction, ensuring projects are thoughtfully detailed, technically sound, and executed with exceptional craftsmanship. You balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution, build strong relationships with ownership, clients, vendors, subcontractors, and team members, identify opportunities for additional project scope and future work, and lead with a positive, solutions-oriented mindset. Requirements

  • Proven experience leading high-end residential, hospitality, institutional, or design-forward construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of New York City Department of Buildings, code compliance and other compliance central to the execution of the role.
  • Strong understanding of landscape construction, architectural detailing, materiality, and design-build project delivery.
  • Ability to translate design intent into exceptional built work.
  • Experience collaborating with landscape architects, architects, engineers, fabricators, and specialty trades.
  • Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills.
  • Deep commitment to craftsmanship, quality, safety, and client service.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all phases of design-build projects, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, on budget, and to Brook Landscape's standards of quality and craftsmanship.
  • Manage project planning, scheduling, labor, materials, and field execution from pre-construction through completion.
  • Anticipate project needs and proactively plan upcoming phases of work, including labor, materials, equipment, and scheduling.
  • Oversee client communication, project documentation, field reporting, and problem resolution.
  • Read and interpret plans, specifications, shop drawings, and construction documents while ensuring accurate site layout and execution.
  • Solve field challenges with sound judgment, creativity, and a solutions-oriented approach that keeps projects moving forward.
  • Partner closely with ownership, designers, architects, and field teams to ensure projects are thoughtful, buildable, and aligned with design intent.
  • Review plans, details, materials, and construction methods with a focus on constructability, quality, durability, and aesthetics.
  • Guide the execution of complex hardscape, site, structural, and custom-built elements while maintaining Brook Landscape's commitment to craftsmanship and design excellence.
  • Serve as a bridge between design and construction, helping translate design intent into exceptional built work while preserving project quality and character.
  • Mentor, train, and develop team members while fostering a culture of accountability, communication, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and industry partners.
  • Partner with ownership to improve systems, operations, and construction processes as the company grows.
  • Identify opportunities for additional project scope, future work, operational improvements, and business growth.
  • Oversee project tracking, documentation, and reporting systems to ensure projects remain organized, transparent, and accountable.
  • Lead with a positive, hands-on attitude and a willingness to step in wherever needed to support the team and the success of the company.
