About The Position

The Senior Project Manager, Director of Construction is responsible for leading residential construction projects from pre-development through homeowner occupancy. This role oversees multiple concurrent projects while providing leadership, mentorship, and operational support to construction staff, field teams, subcontractors, and volunteers. The Director of Construction ensures projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in alignment with organizational standards and mission goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 7 years of residential construction and project management experience.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and supervising construction teams.
  • Strong knowledge of residential construction practices, permitting processes, building codes, and safety regulations.
  • Experience with construction management software such as Procore, BuildPro, or similar platforms.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project reporting tools.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • Affordable housing or nonprofit construction experience preferred.
  • OSHA 30 certification (or willingness to obtain) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all phases of residential construction projects from planning through completion.
  • Manage multiple active construction projects simultaneously while maintaining schedules, budgets, quality, and safety standards.
  • Coordinate permitting, inspections, subcontractors, vendors, site preparation, and material deliveries.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, material take-offs, and documentation.
  • Identify and resolve project risks, delays, and operational challenges proactively.
  • Ensure compliance with local building codes, Habitat standards, and safety regulations.
  • Lead and reinforce jobsite safety practices for staff, subcontractors, volunteers, and partners.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and daily guidance to Project Managers, Site Managers, field staff, and volunteers.
  • Support onboarding, training, and development of construction team members.
  • Assist with workflow improvements, staffing coordination, reporting systems, and operational best practices.
  • Collaborate with internal departments including Community Engagement, Volunteer Engagement, Homeowner Services, Development, and Accounting.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for contractors, inspectors, vendors, and external construction partners.
  • Maintain accurate project records including schedules, budgets, inspections, and change orders.
  • Communicate project updates, progress reports, and issue resolution clearly to leadership and stakeholders.
