About The Position

Reporting to the Dean of the Divinity School, the SUDS Director of the Congregational Leadership Certificate Program is responsible for the overall development of congregational associations and social networks to create online/Hybrid digital leadership academies. The Director will provide visionary leadership for long-term sustainability of partnerships with the Divinity School to generate certificate-driven revenue for an endowment that supports tuition scholarships for Shaw University Divinity School students. This person will function as a lead person in a shared leadership structure that includes a program manager and a program success coordinator. He/she will provide visionary leadership for high-quality leadership training for Congregational Leadership Academies that provide scalable certificate programs toward advanced theological education. The position may include serving in an adjunct teaching role or as administrative faculty. The Director will work closely with the Dean of the Divinity School to ensure a successful alignment with the overall mission of SUDS in recruitment, marketing, and community-building events and activities.

Requirements

DMIN or PhD or ABD in fields related to religion, theology, biblical studies, ministry, church administration, and church history.
3-5 years of experience in higher education leadership and the local Black Church leadership.
Demonstrated interpersonal and organizational skills.
Demonstrated proficiency in proposal and report writing.
Knowledgeable of the field of Black Church studies.
Knowledgeable of emerging trends in the religious landscape in America.
Legally operate an automobile in the State of North Carolina, valid driver's license.
Must have a philosophy that is consistent with the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of the organization.
Vision, commitment, and experience in achieving goals and pursuing excellence are critical; ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and demanding environment.
Must have strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills; proven ability to manage multiple complex assignments with sensitivity to deadlines, priorities, and changing circumstances; demonstrated professional work ethic and positive, problem-solving attitude.
Must be able to read, write, and speak fluently in English.

Familiarity with the characteristics of a private, religious-affiliated liberal arts university is desired.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and oversee the daily operations and field work of the Thriving Congregations Scaling Grant Initiative.
Build strategic partnerships and collaborations with Church social networks for the thriving and revitalization of congregational life.
Organize for the creation of the 8-course Black Church Leadership Certificate Program curriculum and programs to serve the needs of pastors and lay leaders for congregational growth.
Develop relationships with congregations statewide and nationally to support recruitment and fundraising goals for the School of Divinity and its Certificate in Church Leadership.
Provide oversight of the daily operation and facilitation of the Certificate program with varied site coordinators, instructors, and students.
Facilitate training of site coordinators and instructors for the Certificate program.
Facilitate faculty and staff engagement to build community with pastors, congregations, and denominational leaders.
Generate success stories and testimonials for annual reports, recruitment, and marketing.
Help plan and coordinate programs, events, conferences, and meetings that serve the needs of the Church and community in cooperation with the Divinity School.
Generate appropriate weekly, quarterly, and annual reports for the program.
Advance the mission and strategic priorities of Shaw University Divinity School.
Promote theological education that strengthens Black congregations and communities.
Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Participate in strategic planning and annual program evaluation.
Build positive relationships with congregations, denominational leaders, faculty, students, and community partners.
Support enrollment growth and participant recruitment.
Utilize data to improve program quality and participant outcomes.
