About The Position

The Director of Compliance Education & Outreach will develop, implement, and continuously enhance a comprehensive enterprise-wide compliance education, training, and outreach strategy. This role establishes standardized compliance education programs aligned with organizational priorities and regulatory requirements. The Director will monitor changes in legislation and guidance, ensuring timely updates to educational content. They will evaluate the effectiveness of these initiatives and determine required compliance education for all workforce roles. The position also involves providing strategic oversight for education supporting compliant billing and documentation practices, as well as leading compliance education initiatives for clinical research and academic programs. Additionally, the Director will develop and maintain policies related to compliance education, billing, privacy, and research, and serve as a trusted advisor to leadership across various departments.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare, or Legal Studies
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in healthcare compliance, privacy, or legal functions
• Minimum of 5 years of leadership or management experience

• Juris Doctor Degree (JD) in Business, Healthcare, or Legal Studies
• Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS) through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and continuously enhance a comprehensive enterprise-wide compliance education, training, and outreach strategy.
• Establish standardized compliance education programs that align with organizational priorities and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Monitor changes in federal and state legislation, accreditation standards, and regulatory guidance, ensuring timely updates to educational content and training requirements.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of compliance education initiatives through metrics, reporting, and continuous improvement efforts.
• Determine required compliance education for all workforce roles to ensure organizational adherence to evolving regulatory expectations.
• Ensure compliance education programs align with applicable requirements, including CMS, NIH, OHRP, state licensing agencies, privacy regulations, and institutional policies.
• Coordinate implementation of education related to new or revised regulatory, billing, privacy, research, and accreditation requirements.
• Provide strategic oversight for education supporting compliant billing and documentation practices, addressing teaching physician supervision, resident/fellow documentation, attestation, time-based billing, and learner participation.
• Collaborate with Revenue Cycle, Finance, Compliance, and operational leaders to ensure educational initiatives align with payer requirements and provide guidance on supervision and documentation.
• Lead compliance education initiatives supporting clinical research and academic programs, ensuring education addresses human subjects protection, informed consent, GCP, CITI training, and federal research regulations.
• Partner with Research Administration, Legal, Compliance, and academic leadership to ensure education aligns with institutional policies and regulatory expectations.
• Provide oversight for learner participation in research activities to ensure appropriate supervision, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
• Develop, review, and maintain policies, procedures, and educational standards related to compliance education, billing and documentation, privacy and confidentiality, and research compliance.
• Promote consistent documentation practices and appropriate record retention across the organization.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, physicians, faculty, researchers, and operational leaders regarding compliance education and regulatory requirements.
• Lead multidisciplinary committees, workgroups, and organizational initiatives focused on compliance education, billing integrity, research oversight, and regulatory readiness.
• Deliver education and consultation to leaders and staff regarding compliance expectations, emerging regulations, and organizational best practices.
• Foster collaborative partnerships across clinical, research, academic, compliance, legal, finance, and operational teams.
• Participate in departmental and organizational initiatives as assigned.
• Perform other duties as required to support departmental and organizational objectives.
