About The Position

Bennett College, founded in 1873, is a private, historically Black liberal arts college for women in Greensboro, North Carolina. It is one of only two such institutions in the United States and has a legacy of empowering women through academic excellence, leadership development, civic engagement, and social justice. The Director of Community Living & Learning Engagement is a full-time, live-in professional responsible for leading a dynamic residential experience that integrates community living, academic engagement, and holistic student development. This role is a key member of Residence Life and advances institutional priorities related to student retention, persistence, and success, supporting the College’s goal of achieving and sustaining an 85% first-year retention rate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required with 3+ years relevant experience.
  • Experience in residence life, student success, or student affairs.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in Student Success Hub or integrated support model.
  • Background in living-learning communities.
  • Experience with early alert or student success systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a community living and learning framework aligned with retention and student success goals.
  • Collaborate within the Student Success Hub to support early alert and intervention strategies.
  • Provide mentorship, leadership development, and engagement opportunities for residential students.
  • Supervise and train Resident Assistants as peer educators and leaders.
  • Promote community standards using a developmental and restorative approach.
  • Oversee residential operations including occupancy, safety, and facilities coordination.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and support campus-wide initiatives.
  • Conduct monthly analysis of housing concern trends to inform proactive improvements in community living environments.
