(BACB®) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation established in 1998 to provide professional credentialing services for practitioners of behavior analysis services. Position Summary: The Director of Communications leads the organization’s external communications, educational resources, public relations, digital content, editorial, and creative functions. This role develops strategies that improve understanding of the organization’s certifications, strengthen stakeholder trust, and support the organization’s public-protection mission. The Director serves as a strategic advisor to executive leadership and ensures that organizational communications are accurate, accessible, timely, and consistent.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, education, marketing, or a related field.
  • Seven or more years of progressively responsible communications experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing professional staff and leading cross-functional projects.
  • Strong writing, editing, presentation, leadership, and strategic planning skills.
  • Candidates must have the ability to work unrestricted in the U.S.
  • Successful completion of a background check is required after the offer of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in nonprofit, certification, accreditation, healthcare, higher education, government, or professional association settings preferred.
  • Experience with reputation management, crisis communications, accessibility, and plain-language principles preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the organization’s communications and educational strategy.
  • Lead communication planning for major initiatives, policy changes, and organizational announcements.
  • Oversee the development of high-quality educational resources, including handbooks, guides, webpages, videos, webinars, FAQs, and toolkits.
  • Direct public relations, reputation management, media relations, and crisis communications.
  • Oversee digital communications, branding, resources, editorial standards, publishing processes, and creative services.
  • Establish communication standards, style guidelines, and content-governance practices.
  • Monitor stakeholder feedback, public perception, website performance, and resource use.
  • Use data and other best practices to improve communication effectiveness and the stakeholder experience.
  • Manage department staff, priorities, vendors, and performance.
  • Collaborate with departments across the organization to support strategic initiatives.
