About The Position

George Fox University's School of Physical Therapy is seeking a full-time faculty member to serve as the Director of Clinical Education. The Director of Clinical Education provides leadership, administration, coordination, and assessment of all aspects of the full-time clinical education component of the curriculum. The Director of Clinical Education collaborates with program faculty, clinical partners, students, and University administration to ensure the delivery of high-quality clinical education experiences that support achievement of program outcomes and compliance with accreditation standards. The Director of Clinical Education (DCE) serves as the primary liaison between the program and clinical education partners and is responsible for the development, implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement of the clinical education program. The position requires expertise in physical therapist practice, clinical education, student mentoring, and management of clinical education processes. The selected candidate will have responsibilities teaching musculoskeletal content to graduate students.

Requirements

  • A Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree.
  • An unencumbered physical therapist license in Oregon or eligibility for licensure in Oregon.
  • At least five years of experience as a licensed physical therapist.
  • At least three years of full-time clinical practice experience.
  • At least two years of experience in clinical education, including student supervision, clinical instruction, or academic clinical education administration.
  • Qualifications that meet CAPTE criteria for Core Faculty (4A) and Director of Clinical Education (4K).
  • A demonstrated understanding of CAPTE accreditation standards related to clinical education.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in, or a willingness to develop expertise in, pedagogy, instructional technology, and evidence-based teaching practices.
  • Strong organizational, communication, leadership, problem-solving, counseling, and relationship-building skills.
  • A commitment to the University's Theology of Racial and Ethnic Diversity.

Responsibilities

  • Directing and coordinating all aspects of the clinical education program, including the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies, procedures, and operational processes.
  • Ensuring compliance with institutional policies, CAPTE standards, and applicable state and federal regulations while maintaining accurate records related to clinical education experiences, affiliate agreements, assessments, and outcomes.
  • Coordinating clinical education experiences for students across diverse geographic locations through the development of processes and systems that support placements across multiple states and regions.
  • Utilizing technology to facilitate communication, advising, assessment, and support of students and clinical partners.
  • Establishing, developing, and maintaining relationships with clinical education partners through ongoing communication, site visits, consultation, and support for clinical instructors and site coordinators of clinical education.
  • Recruiting, developing, and retaining a diverse network of clinical education sites sufficient to support program needs.
  • Facilitating affiliation agreements and collaborating with clinical partners to ensure quality learning experiences and achievement of clinical education objectives.
  • Coordinating student clinical placements and monitoring student progression and performance throughout clinical education experiences.
  • Preparing students for clinical education experiences through orientation, advising, mentorship, and guidance regarding professional behaviors, communication, clinical reasoning, and expectations for clinical practice.
  • Coordinating remediation plans and providing individualized support when necessary to promote student success.
  • Collaborating with faculty and program leadership to ensure alignment and integration of didactic instruction, laboratory immersions, and clinical education experiences.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and reporting clinical education outcomes data to support program assessment, curriculum revision, accreditation reporting, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Utilizing feedback from students, clinical instructors, employers, and other stakeholders to evaluate and enhance the quality and effectiveness of the clinical education program.
  • Monitoring trends and best practices in physical therapist education and contributing to program planning, development, and assessment activities.
  • Participating in teaching activities as assigned.
  • Engaging in scholarship consistent with University expectations.
  • Participating in School, Department, University, and professional service activities, including attendance at faculty meetings, program meetings, and institutional events.
  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrating awareness, respect, and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and works well with a variety of people.
