About The Position

Provides direct oversight to the Emergency Department, Infection Prevention, ICU, 2N, 3N, 4N, NLU/Peds, TCU/Rehab, and the Nursing Supervisor’s Office; in collaboration and under the guidance of the Chief Nurse Executive. Collaborates with departments to enhance the Patient and Employee Experience. Directs, supervises, delegates and evaluates nursing care provided to patients by using professional skills and judgments. Works closely with Guest Relations and the Quality Department to ensure timely resolution to patient grievances. Together with Quality, follows up on action plans and new implementations, specific to Nursing, per DOH and/or DNV regulations. Partners with Utilization Management and Social Services to enhance the throughput of patients. Works closely with Safety: helping fall prevention, and assisting with the implementation of virtual technologies. Liaise with informatics as appropriate. Works collaboratively with our schools and our recruiter: helping to recruit and/or onboard Nurse Externs, GN’s. Provide supervision and/or assistance to support the Nurse Leaders: performance evaluations, completion of Con Ed, Assist with Capital/Expense Budget Processes, interviewing and/or the disciplinary process. Remain apprised of the CNE’s and Organization’s annual strategic goals. Works closely with the Clinical Education Coordinator: help identify educational opportunities. Attends meetings as necessary. Communicates with and serves as a liaison between nursing, patient, patient’s family, physician and surrounding community. Promotes an environment in which the care team can work cooperatively toward objectives. Seeks assistance from appropriate resource persons as necessary in solving clinical and management problems. Ensures that patient care is provided according to policy, procedure and patient care standards specific to the unit. Collaborates with physicians as needed. Functions as clinical and managerial resource to guide and validates the independent decision making of the staff. Identifies staff development needs and recredentialing needs and coordinates programs to meet those needs. Makes routine inspections of the facility to assure that established policies and procedures are being implemented and followed.

Requirements

  • Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice at a level normally acquired through completion of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Current State Nursing License, mandatory.
  • BSN mandatory.
  • At least 5 years recent clinical experience.
  • Knowledge of rules, regulations, and guidelines of state and federal agencies pertinent to health care required.
  • Health care management experience is essential.
  • BLS required.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Ability to concentrate and prioritize, plan and perform professional care - often during stressful situations.
  • Ability to make rounds.
  • Must independently be able to respond to an emergency situation.
  • Ability to deal with regulatory agencies in demanding, sometimes stressful, situations.
  • Must be able to use the following management accountabilities / competencies: conflict resolution, staff counseling, problem solving, disciplinary process, policy and procedure implementation, teamwork, staff scheduling, support of management peers, interviewing, budgeting process and cost containment skills.
