About The Position

Tufts University School of Medicine is seeking a Director of Clinical Affairs to provide strategic leadership and oversight for its clinical education enterprise. This role involves managing a broad network of affiliated training sites that offer educational experiences for medical students (MD), Physician Assistant (PA) students, Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students, and pre-professional learners. The Director will develop and sustain partnerships with teaching hospitals, community health centers, physician practices, and other clinical organizations to ensure high-quality educational experiences and advance the School's educational mission. This is a highly visible leadership position requiring exceptional relationship management, strategic planning, and organizational skills to navigate complex environments and drive continuous improvement in clinical education partnerships and operations. The position is part-time, scheduled for 17.5 hours per week, and is primarily on-site with flexibility for limited remote work.

Requirements

  • MD degree.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of clinical practice experience.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in academic medicine.
  • Experience with clinical faculty development, engagement, and/or educational leadership.
  • Exceptional leadership, relationship management, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships and effectively influence outcomes across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and navigate complex environments.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to addressing challenges.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a university, academic health center, or academic medical institution.
  • Experience in healthcare leadership, academic medicine leadership, or medical education administration.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for the School of Medicine's clinical education network.
  • Develop, strengthen, and sustain partnerships with affiliated hospitals, community health centers, physician practices, and other clinical organizations.
  • Serve as the principal liaison between the School of Medicine and its clinical affiliates.
  • Identify opportunities to expand and enhance clinical training sites and learner experiences.
  • Lead efforts to recruit, onboard, engage, retain, and recognize clinical faculty across affiliated training sites.
  • Support faculty appointment processes and academic affiliation activities for clinical educators.
  • Foster strong relationships with clinical educators and site leaders.
  • Promote initiatives that strengthen faculty participation in the School's educational mission.
  • Partner with leadership across the MD, PA, and DPT programs, the Office of Faculty Affairs, pathway programs, and Academic Deans to support clinical education operations and strategic initiatives.
  • Identify trends and opportunities for improvement across clinical sites and educational programs.
  • Manage affiliation agreements and related administrative processes.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exercise independent judgment in resolving complex challenges and sensitive issues.
  • Lead communications and relationship-management efforts across clinical affiliates and academic units.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, inclusion, responsiveness, and service excellence.
