About The Position

The Village Health Center (VHC), a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) operated by Father Joe’s Villages, provides integrated healthcare services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness in San Diego. Through primary care, behavioral health, dental services, Recuperative Care, Detox, Street Medicine, and care coordination programs, we help individuals improve their health and move toward greater stability and well-being. We are seeking an experienced healthcare operations leader to provide strategic oversight of the systems, processes, and operational functions that support high-quality, integrated care. This role is critical to ensuring the health center operates efficiently, remains financially sustainable, and continues to deliver exceptional services to the community. As the Director of Clinic Operations, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for the administrative functions that support the Village Health Center. Reporting to the Chief Health Officer, you will oversee clinic operations, revenue cycle performance, compliance activities, operational systems, and administrative services that enable high-quality, integrated healthcare delivery. While clinical and program leaders focus on patient care and service delivery, you will ensure the operational infrastructure behind those services remains effective, compliant, financially sustainable, and aligned with organizational goals. This role is ideal for a collaborative healthcare leader who enjoys improving systems, solving complex operational challenges, supporting high-performing teams, and using data to drive organizational performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, Health Services Management, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare administration, clinic operations, practice management, revenue cycle management, or a related healthcare field.
  • Minimum five (5) years of management experience with responsibility for staff leadership, operational oversight, and budget administration.
  • Demonstrated success leading healthcare operations within a complex, multi-disciplinary healthcare environment.
  • Strong knowledge of ambulatory care operations, medical practice management, and healthcare service delivery models.
  • Experience overseeing budgets, resource stewardship, revenue cycle performance, financial operations, and organizational performance metrics.
  • Understanding of FQHC operations, healthcare reimbursement methodologies, regulatory compliance requirements, and healthcare quality standards.
  • Ability to analyze operational, financial, and performance data and translate findings into strategic and operational decisions.
  • Experience leading organizational change, process improvement initiatives, and operational excellence efforts that improve efficiency, compliance, and service delivery.
  • Proven ability to build, develop, and lead high-performing teams through coaching, accountability, employee engagement, and professional development.
  • Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across clinical, operational, and executive leadership teams.
  • Experience managing complex projects, competing priorities, and organizational initiatives in a dynamic healthcare environment.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to influence outcomes and drive results.
  • Commitment to advancing equitable access to healthcare and improving outcomes for individuals experiencing homelessness and other vulnerable populations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for clinic operations, administrative services, revenue cycle functions, and operational support systems.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, patient access, service delivery, and organizational performance.
  • Oversee revenue cycle operations and financial performance to support the long-term sustainability of the health center.
  • Monitor operational metrics and performance indicators, using data to identify opportunities and implement effective solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with FQHC, HRSA, Medicare, Medi-Cal, HIPAA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise, develop, and support management staff while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with clinical leadership and organizational departments to support coordinated, patient-centered healthcare services.
  • Build strong relationships with community partners, vendors, funders, regulatory agencies, and other key stakeholders.
  • Support strategic initiatives and operational priorities that advance the mission and goals of the Village Health Center.
