About The Position

The Director of Childcare and Early Childhood Education has operational and administrative responsibility for Respite Care of San Antonio’s (RCSA) Childcare Center. The Director will be responsible for, but not limited to, managing the day-to-day operations of the Center and establishing and sustaining a high-quality, nurturing, positive learning environment for children. The Director will oversee the coordination of education programs and curriculum that comply with local, state, and federal regulations, ensure facilities are maintained, mentor and support staff, and manage the budget for the Center. The Director will strive to create a supportive and encouraging environment for both children and teachers while ensuring high-quality services to children with special needs and the families who care for them.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older and have favorable findings on background checks to include the Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Department of Health, and Texas Department of Family and Protective Services criminal record checks, and a negative drug test.
  • A Texas Director's Certification and experience in a Director role at an early childcare center.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education.
  • Flexible availability and willing to work all shifts, including some weekends to meet the needs of the program.
  • Organized and efficient management of tasks with limited oversight.
  • Experience with managing a team, including recruiting and retaining staff.

  • Master’s degree in education is preferred or in a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Build, lead, and inspire the team to achieve the highest results.
  • Train teachers to effectively utilize curriculum and teaching tools.
  • Regularly observe each classroom and provide ongoing feedback and development to teachers.
  • Create a culture of support within the center (for team members, families, and children).
  • Supervise and support childcare staff, providing guidance, feedback, and professional development opportunities.
  • Primary contact for both current and potential families and field leadership
  • Create an environment where all teachers and students can be their best every day.
  • Manage daily operations of the childcare center.
  • Conduct regular meetings with the team to communicate important information and set direction.
  • Approve and communicate work schedules to ensure appropriate ratios are always intact.
  • Interview, assess, and hire new teachers, teacher assistants, foster grandparents, AARP volunteers, and interns.
  • Review and approve payroll, ensuring the accuracy of timekeeping systems.
  • Develop and implement parent & guardian handbook, policies, and procedures that promote the health, safety, and well-being of all children.
  • Ensure all health and safety standards for both children and teachers are always met.
  • Work with the Chief Operating Officer to ensure maximum enrollment and effective cost control.
  • Conduct tours for potential families, community partners, and stakeholders.
  • Actively drive enrollment, always seeking a capacity of 95%.
  • Ensuring the facility exceeds standards- maintain Texas Rising Star Four (4) Certification
  • Establish National Accreditation and maintain annually once acquired.
  • Build new relationships with community and business leaders (United Way, Education Service Center Region 20, Early Matters, Workforce Commission, Prek4SA, Family Services Associations, Chamber of Commerce, etc.)
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of childcare programs and services, making improvements as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all licensing, accreditation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Stay current with trends and best practices in early childhood education and childcare.
