About The Position

Provides instructional, behavioral, personal care, and classroom support to young children with disabilities under the direction of the licensed teacher to promote student learning, development, safety, and independence.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to work effectively with preschool-aged students with disabilities and diverse learning needs.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn instructional strategies, behavior supports, and early childhood special education practices.
  • Ability to provide positive behavioral support in both individual and group settings.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Basic technology skills.
  • Ability to organize work, follow directions, and adapt to changing student and classroom needs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, families, staff, and community members.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with young children or students with disabilities is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the classroom teacher in implementing instructional, behavioral, therapeutic, and developmental activities aligned with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Provide individual and small-group instructional support as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist with classroom management and implementation of positive behavior support strategies and student behavior plans.
  • Support students with communication, social-emotional, academic, functional, and daily living skills.
  • Assist with student supervision in the classroom, during transitions, on the playground, on field trips, and during other school activities.
  • Prepare instructional materials and classroom displays as directed.
  • Maintain accurate student and classroom records as assigned.
  • Assist with informal data collection and documentation of student progress under the direction of the teacher.
  • Utilize instructional technology and communication tools to support student learning.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and positive classroom environment.
  • Follow universal precautions and district health and safety procedures, including assisting with toileting, diapering, feeding, lifting, positioning, and other personal care needs as required.
  • Collaborate professionally with teachers, related service providers, administrators, families, and other staff members.
  • Attend required meetings and training.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with state and federal law.
  • Comply with all district policies, procedures, and professional expectations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
