Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
  • Master's degree preferred or an equivalent combination of work experience and education.
  • North Carolina RN license required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience preferred or an equivalent combination of work experience and education.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements of the organization.
  • Direct and evaluate departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management to achieve performance and quality control objectives.
  • Plan and monitor staffing activities, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.
  • Prepare, monitor, and evaluate departmental budgets, ensuring compliance with allocated funding. Coordinate and direct internal/external audits.
  • Create and foster an environment that encourages professional growth and integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.
  • Provide clinical leadership for Patient Care Coordinators and Social Workers on issues regarding quality, resource management, utilization review, and discharge planning.
  • Review the delivery of services and care provided in the acute care setting for medical necessity, appropriateness, and conformance to professional standards.
  • Collaborate with the Nursing Director regarding interdisciplinary patient care rounds.
  • Participate in hospital and departmental safety programs.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement, collect data, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Communicate responses to potential or actual payment denials and collaborate with individual physicians to resolve utilization review concerns.
