About The Position

The Director of Carrier Management & Procurement oversees carrier performance, strategic procurement, and customer contractual pricing strategies across our non-asset transportation network. This leader is responsible for driving strict governance and compliance, refining carrier qualification processes, executing data-driven customer pricing initiatives, and managing the end-to-end carrier lifecycle, ensuring our carrier network consistently delivers optimal service, robust route guide health, and continuous value.

Requirements

  • BA or BS Degree preferred
  • 10+ years’ experience in the transportation operations with a proven track record of success
  • Familiar with a variety of transportation concepts, practices and procedures
  • Experience with overall direction, coordination and evaluation of department
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate organization visions and values
  • Able to demonstrate a high degree of planning, organizational, analytical, and financial skills
  • Proficient computer skills especially with Microsoft Word, Excel and Power point as well as the essential transportation and procurement software
  • Conceptual, strategic thinker with demonstrated ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Independent, must be able to work with little direction or structure and able to work effectively with all verticals within NFI
  • Strong work ethic (e.g. “roll-up-your sleeves" leadership)
  • Hands-on, customer/carrier driven focus

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and strengthen existing carrier relationships while actively identifying new strategic partnerships that benefit NFI Non-Asset and its clients.
  • Lead, direct, mentor, and scale a multi-disciplinary team of procurement specialists, carrier managers, and compliance operators, fostering high accountability, continuous training, and operational excellence.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee custom SOPs and structured carrier onboarding plans for new customer implementations and network growth.
  • Monitor all carrier KPIs, maintain regular scorecard discussions, and trigger performance reviews or corrective action strategies when performance drops below required thresholds.
  • Establish multi-level ("3x3") carrier relationships aligned with each program structure to ensure long-term operational integration and strategic alignment.
  • Address and resolve carrier performance, operational, and program-centric issues, administering both onsite and virtual carrier review meetings.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations and Client Engagement teams on overall program performance, leveraging carrier management strategies to drive cost efficiencies and maintain premium service levels.
  • Enforce continuous compliance with carrier safety qualifications, insurance levels, and regulatory standards per NFI policy, developing new risk management policies as needed.
  • Conduct regular scorecard discussions and maintain ongoing communication with carriers regarding process changes, market dynamics, and program expectations.
  • Monitor carrier payment terms, billing compliance, and aging to ensure alignment between NFI, carriers, and customer expectations.
  • Facilitate end-to-end RFP/RFX events across all modes (TL, LTL, Intermodal, dedicated, Specialized, etc.) for customers, managing the RFP technology platform and bid execution.
  • Create and maintain a standardized, marketable, replicable, and implementable RFP framework that can be seamlessly presented to prospects and clients.
  • Participate directly in designing custom capacity solutions for NFI Clients during pre-sales, network design, and program implementation phases.
  • Direct customer pricing activities and consult clients on market dynamics, providing clear guidance on when to procure new pricing and refresh market benchmarks.
  • Perform deep-dive route guide analytics to identify carrier performance trends, secondary coverage gaps, and cost saving opportunities by vertical.
  • Leverage AI technology and historic data (route guide depth, carrier performance, mode, and vertical dynamics) to drive intelligent route guide decisions and translate post-RFP outcomes.
  • Maintain a centralized repository of carrier contracts, ensuring all rates, operational liability, and terms align strictly with customer agreements.
  • Collaborate with NFI Implementation, Analytics and Engineering teams to ensure RFP outcomes and rate structures are accurately configured in the TMS for seamless operational execution.
  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of carrier procurement and management operators, training them on RFP software, analytics tools, and execution processes.
  • Partner with NFI Marketing to create high-quality carrier startup collateral, marketing materials, and program roadmaps outlining expectations and timelines.
  • Identify expansion and volume growth opportunities for high-performing carriers across various client accounts to foster mutual success.
  • Complete any other tasks or duties as assigned.
