About The Position

The Director of Career and Technical Programs is responsible for the supervision, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of all Career and Technical Education Programs. This role ensures that the curriculum, teaching, learning, and assessments meet Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) guidelines and industry standards. The position focuses on maintaining and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under its direction and control, performing related duties as required by the Principal or Superintendent-Director.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree with five (5) years of teaching/administrative experience.
  • Holds appropriate Massachusetts DESE licensure related to Career Vocational Technical Education Administration.
  • Work experience in curriculum development, implementation, and review required.
  • Trade experience and competency required.
  • Knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment, as well as trade competency identification.
  • Working knowledge of school administration processes.
  • Basic knowledge of the functions of municipal government.
  • Basic understanding of the interaction between local government, state government, and federal government.
  • Working knowledge of business administration best practices.
  • Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws.
  • Comprehensive awareness and understanding of Professional Learning Communities (PLC).
  • Demonstrated success in data analysis and the effective use of the DESE Data Warehouse.
  • Ability to establish program objectives that provide for continual professional growth and improvement.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and collaborate with others.
  • Ability to analyze, create and present reports, presentations and data.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all school employees, students, teachers, parents, and vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating all Career and Technical Programs and activities, including the freshman exploratory program.
  • Developing and reviewing curriculum, instruction, and assessment of student learning, and providing leadership by determining their appropriateness for inclusion in the District’s Strategic Plan.
  • Working with others to implement, monitor, and evaluate new and innovative curriculum programs, practices, and concepts.
  • Developing clear and thorough reporting procedures for all Career and Technical Programs.
  • Working with the Director of Academic Programs and academic teachers to develop and implement integration plans that enhance applied learning for students.
  • Building strong professional relationships, fostering collaborative leadership structures, and maintaining a visible and positive presence within the school community.
  • Providing oversight and supervision of the Cooperative Education Program and Co-op Coordinator.
  • Providing recommendations for the Principal and Superintendent regarding professional development needs for staff and administration.
  • Maintaining the organization of the Career and Technical Programs to ensure consistency with Chapter 74 standards and innovative learning approaches.
  • Promoting equitable access, student engagement, and high-quality learning experiences across all Career and Technical Education programs.
  • Evaluating the performance of all Career and Technical Education faculty and staff, the educational process, the organization of subject matter, productivity, work standards, safety, and student activities within each program.
  • Working collaboratively with the District Leadership Team to ensure effective cross-curriculum functioning between academic, career and technical education, and special education programming.
  • Effectively engaging staff, students, families, industry partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Using student achievement, placement, credential attainment, exploratory, and program performance data to drive continuous improvement and inform strategic decision-making.
  • Analyzing annual achievement data to identify areas in need of continuous focus and improvement.
  • Conducting regular Learning Walks with other school staff to assess teaching and learning.
  • Establishing effective team processes, including meeting schedules, protocols, and procedures, to document progress and establish goals.
  • Supporting the alignment of Career and Technical Education programming with evolving workforce needs, industry trends, credential attainment opportunities, and postsecondary pathways.
  • Overseeing lesson plans submitted by teachers to their supervisors.
  • Providing leadership, direction, and oversight of all state and district CVTE testing programs.
  • Leading the implementation of district strategic initiatives within Career and Technical Education programs, ensuring alignment between district priorities, instructional practice, and program outcomes.
  • Performing all other duties as assigned by the Principal or the Superintendent/Director.
