About The Position

Reporting to the Chief Academic Officer, the Director of Career and Technical Education leads the efforts of Stafford County Public Schools (Stafford Schools) to design and implement high quality Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and integrate workforce readiness skills across all grades and academic programs. The Director works closely with school leadership to provide coordinated support based on each school’s improvement plan, and is responsible for management of the Perkins Grant for Stafford Schools. The Director leads the development and implementation of local and state budgets which also include other state grants supporting CTE opportunities for all students. The Director collaborates with business and community partners, and supervises the work of staff managing CTE programs, work-based learning experiences, and credentialing for CTE programs and students participating in those programs. The successful candidate will bring expertise in CTE programs, a track record of success leading programs that prepare students for postsecondary success and supporting educators to do the same, strong interpersonal skills to work with numerous internal and external stakeholders, and a solutions-oriented mindset.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education required; concentration in an aligned field (including CTE content areas, educational leadership, or business administration) strongly preferred.
  • Postgraduate Professional License issued by the Virginia Department of Education, or eligibility for the same, required; endorsements in any Career and Technical Education discipline and administration and supervision preferred.
  • Five (5) or more years as an instructor of career and technical education in either K-12 schools or higher education, with progressive responsibility for leading or coordinating the work of other instructors, required.
  • Experience managing federal and state grants strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead division-wide program for Career and Technical Education
  • Lead strategic development, implementation, and evaluation of CTE and other workforce preparedness academic programs and curricula.
  • Support school leadership teams to incorporate CTE and workforce preparedness into school improvement plans.
  • Collaborate with the Human Resources and Talent Development to identify professional learning needs for CTE instructors and support discipline-specific development opportunities to address those needs.
  • Promote integration of workforce preparedness programming across content areas through collaboration within the Department of Academic Programs.
  • Support professional learning for school leadership to improve site-based monitoring of CTE program effectiveness.
  • Lead the implementation of new and existing secondary program pathway offerings and specialty centers.
  • Collaborate with business partners and community advisory groups to inform CTE program offerings and contribute to division- and school-level decisions on changes to course offerings.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Student Services to ensure CTE programs are accessible to students with special needs.
  • Ensure and expand external support for CTE programming
  • Manage the Stafford Schools Perkins Grant, including implementation and evaluation of funded activities and compliance with program requirements.
  • Work with the Department of Research, Evaluation, and Strategic Improvement to identify and pursue competitive grant opportunities for CTE and workforce preparedness aligned to the division’s strategic plan.
  • Supervise collaboration with the Office of Communications to build strong relationships with employers and business partners to expand opportunities for students to participate in work-based learning.
  • Represent Stafford Schools, as appropriate, in regional, state, and/or national CTE conferences and associations to expand the division’s profile on CTE.
