The provincial government approved an expansion of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville owned Maple View Lodge that will triple the number of long-term-care beds at the home near Athens, Ontario. The addition of 132 beds to the 60-bed facility is good news for the Counties creating more class-A beds assisting with the aging demographics of Leeds and Grenville and the need for more long-term-care beds. The Home will be opening in the coming weeks. The Maple View Lodge is in the Township of Athens as part of the region's heartland and is famous for its lakes and cottage country. Charleston Lake is the jewel of the area, attracting boating, fishing and water sport enthusiasts. Athens is located 20 minutes North of Brockville Ontario. Brockville is a vibrant riverside community where tourists from around the world come to boat, fish, sail, camp, hike, cycle and golf. The Brockville Country Club and Highland Golf Course are on the edge of the city, and another 35 courses are within a one-hour drive. Brockville is also known for its access to top-notch scuba diving in the St. Lawrence River. This city is situated on Highway 401 on the main rail line and located in between two international bridges to the U.S. The Director of Care (DOC) is a Registered Nurse certified with the College of Nurses Ontario (CNO), with additional specialized academic qualifications and experience, who provides education, coordination and supervision to nursing staff through expertise in Best Practices in gerontological and relevant clinical and management theory and practices. The Director of Care is responsible for management and leadership of resident care and is required to meet the needs and expectations of residents in accordance with standards and guidelines of the Fixing the Long-Term Care Homes Act, all aspects of a robust, progressive resident- focused Quality Management program. This position is actively involved in recruitment and retention of nursing staff team members and monitors performance of Registered and Unregulated Care Providers in the nursing department and other duties assigned. The Director of Care is responsible for mandatory education and other programs that assure overall excellent clinical care through planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating programs related to resident care. The DOC works closely with the Home’s Medical Director and medical staff.
