About The Position

The Seasonal Director of Camp Operations at MOCC is responsible for the planning, setup, and day-to-day execution of Asphalt Green’s Summer Playcation at the Major R. Owens Community Center (MOCC). This role serves as the primary operational lead on-site, ensuring that all aspects of camp run safely, smoothly, and in alignment with Asphalt Green’s standards and mission. This position plays a critical role in pre-season preparation and provides hands-on leadership throughout the summer, supporting staff, managing logistics, and ensuring a high-quality experience for campers and families. This position is based in Brooklyn, New York. On-site hours are approximately 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with pre-season administrative work completed in a hybrid environment. Camp dates are June 29-August 28, 2026, with required pre-season work and a debrief meeting after the season ends.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience working in a camp, school, or youth development setting in a leadership role.
  • Strong organizational and operational management skills.
  • Ability to lead teams and manage staff in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to implement and uphold safety standards and procedures.
  • Comfortable working on-site and actively supervising campers and staff throughout the day.
  • Flexible, proactive, and solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to remain calm, composed, and effective in high-pressure, challenging, or emergency situations, including those of a medical nature.

  • Asphalt Green will provide certification training in CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Responding-to-Emergencies Advanced First Aid.

Responsibilities

  • Supports administrative and operational preparation leading up to the summer season, including registration coordination.
  • Develops site-specific operational plans, including daily activity schedules, logistics, and space usage.
  • Coordinates with internal departments and external partners to confirm programming needs and logistics.
  • Assists the Associate Director of Camps and Camps Staffing Coordinator with hiring support, staff onboarding plans, and training preparation for the MOCC seasonal team.
  • Assists with site-specific purchasing, inventory, and equipment organization in collaboration with the Camp Operations Director.
  • Ensures that safety protocols, emergency procedures, and compliance requirements are clearly established prior to camp opening.
  • Provides direct, on-site leadership for all daily camp operations at MOCC.
  • Serves as the primary point person for on-site operational decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Serves as the primary point person for Department of Health in-season inspections.
  • Ensures the consistent implementation of Asphalt Green policies, procedures, and culture.
  • Creates daily schedules for campers ages 6–12 and contributes to curriculum planning for sports-focused activities.
  • Manages swim permissions and rosters, coordinating directly with partners at Imagine Swimming.
  • Oversees daily schedules, transitions, and logistics to ensure smooth program flow.
  • Monitors staffing structures, supervision, and camper-to-staff ratios in collaboration with camp leadership.
  • Supervises and supports seasonal staff by providing guidance, coaching, and real-time feedback.
  • Coordinates space usage and logistics with on-site staff and program partners, including swim and sports providers.
  • Maintains a safe environment by enforcing risk management protocols and responding appropriately to incidents.
  • Communicates effectively with families, addressing questions and concerns as needed.
  • Escalates operational or safety concerns to the Director of Camps in a timely and professional manner.
  • Provides basic first aid and responds to camper and staff health needs as appropriate.
  • Oversees before-care programming beginning at 8:00 AM and after-care programming through 5:00 PM.
  • Partners with internal departments, including Housekeeping and IT, to support daily camp operations.
  • Maintains organized systems for inventory, supplies, and site documentation.
  • Participates in regular check-ins with camp leadership to provide updates and identify needs.
  • Contributes to end-of-season evaluations and offers recommendations for future improvements.
