About The Position

Administrative management position, responsible for leading the Athletic Department and designing and implementing a strategic plan to promote sports and exercise within the University's holistic educational project. The Director promotes a culture centered on student service, aligned with the university's mission.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree and a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Exercise Science, Physical Education, Business Administration, Social Sciences, Psychology, or a field related to the position's responsibilities. Both degrees must be from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of progressive leadership, administrative, and supervisory experience in athletic programs, preferably in university or educational settings.
  • Experience in the recruitment, mentorship, and holistic development of student-athletes, as well as in the supervision, evaluation, and management of professional, technical, and administrative staff.
  • Minimum of three (3) years as a coach or sports leader of competitive teams, including a proven track record of achievement, programmatic development, or awards earned under their direction.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in administrative processes, operational management, and compliance related to athletic programs, including event coordination, sports facilities management, regulations, and budget management.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience related to the Interuniversity Athletic League (LAI), federations, and sports clubs.

Nice To Haves

  • Current certifications in CPR and Lifeguard, or the ability to obtain them within the first six months of employment.
  • Current DRDS license as a sports coach or sports official.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and comprehensively administer the University's Athletic Program, ensuring compliance with the institutional mission, strategic objectives, and applicable regulations.
  • Supervise, develop, and evaluate regular, temporary staff, coaches, contractors, and other resources assigned to the Athletic Program, promoting a culture of collaboration, professionalism, and student well-being.
  • Design and implement strategic plans, initiatives, and projects aimed at strengthening university sports, holistic well-being, and the promotion of healthy lifestyles as part of the University's educational project.
  • Direct and supervise university sports programs, including competitions of the Interuniversity Athletic League (LAI) competitions, exhibition matches, recreational programs, intramural activities, and other related initiatives.
  • Coordinate institutional sports programming, including practices, competitions, events, and the use of sports facilities and spaces.
  • Direct the recruitment, mentorship, and holistic development processes of student-athletes, promoting their academic success, physical and emotional well-being, institutional compliance, and personal development.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations, policies, and institutional and external requirements related to university athletic programs, including LAI regulations, eligibility processes, and required documentation.
  • Maintain effective communication and collaboration with faculty, academic advisors, and other institutional units to support the academic progress and university experience of student-athletes.
  • Represent the University before sports organizations, at official meetings, in activities related to university sports, and before other external entities.
  • Prepare, administer, and manage the Athletic Program's budget, including resource management, contracts, purchases, disbursements, per diems, inventories, and operational needs.
  • Prepare and submit reports, statistics, certifications, and documentation required by the University, the LAI, and other regulatory or administrative entities.
  • Advise staff, coaches, and student-athletes on regulations, policies, and processes related to the Athletic Program and university sports participation.
  • Address and handle situations, conflicts, or matters related to student-athletes, staff, and other components of the athletic community, acting with professional judgment, confidentiality, and institutional sensitivity.
  • Administer and optimize the use, operation, and maintenance of sports facilities and spaces, including institutional activities and authorized leases to third parties.
  • Promote a culture of sports integrity, ethics, discipline, and character formation, while developing and supporting new initiatives, projects, and development opportunities for the Athletic Program.
