About The Position

Hillel International seeks a Director of AI Strategy & Enablement to build lasting AI capability across its professional network. Reporting to the Senior Director, Organizational Learning, this leader will work closely with Technology Services and a cross-departmental team to identify opportunities, redesign workflows, develop best practices and ethical guidelines, and strengthen staff skills in responsible AI use. The role is focused on enabling teams to use AI effectively rather than serving as a help desk, and requires strong facilitation and change-management skills alongside the ability to move between organizational strategy and hands-on implementation. The initial focus is service to Hillel International’s Schusterman International Center (SIC), with consultation and resource sharing across campus Hillels anticipated in year two. The position is fully remote for eligible candidates based in the United States, with a preference for candidates able to work hybrid one to two days per week at the Washington, D.C. headquarters. This is a two-year position; continuation beyond the initial term depends on demonstrated impact and sustained funding. The Director will advance strategic use of organizational data, guide AI adoption and governance, support selection and rollout of enterprise AI platforms, and coordinate implementation, integration, and support. The role will also develop an enablement strategy that includes staff training, embedded consultation, peer learning, and hands-on implementation support, incorporating AI training into existing professional development programs. Responsible AI principles should address privacy, data quality, bias, accuracy, transparency, and environmental impact while recognizing AI’s limitations and supporting its use as an amplifier of human expertise and creativity.

Requirements

  • Significant professional experience, typically 8 or more years, in learning and development, change management, organizational development, digital transformation, or a closely related field.
  • Hands-on fluency with modern AI tools, including large language models and enterprise AI platforms, and a working understanding of their capabilities and limitations.
  • Collaborative approach to setting priorities, building from scratch, and moving between organizational strategy and hands-on implementation.
  • Track record of driving technology adoption across an organization, helping people move from curiosity to confident, sustained practice.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into plain language and practical workflows.
  • Strong facilitation and adult-learning skills, including experience designing and delivering training or enablement for non-technical staff.
  • Ability to discuss the ethical, cultural, and environmental dimensions of AI credibly and honestly, including its limitations and risks, and to help colleagues navigate concerns.
  • Conviction that AI should enhance human creativity and expertise rather than substitute for it, with judgment to help teams determine appropriate uses.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, including ability to advise and influence senior leadership.
  • Sound judgment concerning data integrity, privacy, and responsible use of organizational information.
  • Must be legally authorized to work and based in the United States.

  • Establish practical principles for responsible AI use, including data privacy and quality, bias and accuracy, transparency, and environmental footprint.
  • Address staff skepticism and ethical or values-based concerns, and promote AI as an amplifier of expertise and creativity rather than a replacement for it.
  • Guide the selection and rollout of enterprise-grade AI platforms, secure access, and supporting technology infrastructure.
  • Establish standards that protect data integrity and organizational quality while keeping tools practical and useful to staff.
  • Coordinate operational implementation, integration, and support.
