Director of Advancement

Moravian Academy•Bethlehem, PA

About The Position

Moravian Academy seeks a strategic, relationship-driven Director of Institutional Advancement to lead its philanthropic program into a multi-phase capital campaign as the school approaches its fourth century. The campaign will shape the school's physical campus and financial foundation. The Board of Trustees has authorized campaign preparation, campaign counsel has completed a feasibility study, and facilities priorities have been identified, beginning with athletics and a new Upper School. The Director succeeds a retiring, long-serving advancement leader and reports to the Head of School. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director serves as the Head's primary partner in philanthropy and leads a five-person advancement team. The team includes a Director of Strategic Campaign Initiatives, who manages the campaign day to day, and a Director of Major and Planned Gifts. The Director will personally cultivate and solicit leadership gifts, prepare trustees and volunteers to ask, and build systems to support fundraising at a new scale. The role also focuses on strengthening annual giving, deepening alumni and parent engagement across three campuses, and laying the groundwork for long-term endowment growth and planned giving. Success will be measured by funds raised as well as the quality of relationships, volunteer leadership, and advancement culture established for Moravian's 300th anniversary in 2042. The Director of Institutional Advancement is expected to embody Moravian Academy's Portrait of an Employee: engaging in community through lasting partnerships with donors, alumni, volunteers, and colleagues; striving for excellence in campaign strategy and major-gift fundraising; discovering through curiosity by building new approaches to philanthropy; and acting with integrity in interactions with donors, trustees, and the broader school community.
