About The Position

ThriftBooks is seeking an experienced Director, Acquisition to lead customer acquisition and performance marketing strategy across our direct-to-consumer eCommerce business. This role will be responsible for driving profitable customer growth, optimizing marketing investment, and expanding how new customers discover and engage with ThriftBooks. As the Director, Acquisition, you'll develop and lead an integrated acquisition strategy across Paid Media, Organic Search and AEO/GEO, Affiliates, Social Media, Referral, and emerging channels. You'll own acquisition performance and economics, including channel budgets, CAC, conversion, contribution margin, payback period, and customer lifetime value. You'll lead and develop the Acquisition team while partnering closely with Retention, Product, Data & Analytics, Web Development, UX/UI, Merchandising, and Finance. You'll use customer, marketing, and financial data to evaluate performance, optimize channel mix and investment, and identify opportunities to efficiently scale customer and revenue growth. You'll also oversee key agencies, platforms, and external partners, establish measurement and testing frameworks, and help shape ThriftBooks' acquisition strategy as consumer discovery behaviors, technology, and digital marketing channels continue to evolve.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in digital marketing, performance marketing, or customer acquisition, including 4+ years leading teams.
  • Proven success developing and scaling multi-channel acquisition strategies within an eCommerce or DTC environment.
  • Deep expertise in Paid Media and Organic Search, with experience across additional acquisition channels such as Affiliates, Social Media, Referral, and emerging channels.
  • Strong understanding of acquisition economics and performance measurement, including CAC, ROAS, conversion, attribution, incrementality, contribution margin, and customer lifetime value.
  • Experience managing significant marketing budgets and making data-driven investment decisions based on profitability and incremental return.
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen, with experience forecasting performance, evaluating results, and translating complex data into clear business recommendations.
  • Proven ability to lead high-performing teams and collaborate effectively across Marketing, Product, Analytics, Technology, and Finance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Economics, Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

  • Experience in a high-SKU-count, low-AOV, or similarly complex eCommerce environment.
  • Experience with large product catalogs, product feeds, AI-driven search and discovery, or marketplace dynamics.
  • Familiarity with creator, influencer, and other emerging customer acquisition programs.
  • Experience navigating evolving privacy, attribution, and digital measurement practices.
  • Passion for books, reading, and sustainability.
