About The Position

Honeydew is seeking a founding accounting leader, a "player-coach," to build a world-class accounting organization from the ground up. This role involves architecting systems, automation, and AI-native workflows to enable significant scaling. The position focuses on outcomes, with key milestones in the first 180 days including modernizing the tech stack with an AI-native ERP, bringing the accounting function in-house from outsourced services, and achieving a 10-day monthly close, with a path to 5 days or better. The impact will be made through system and process architecture with heavy automation, technical ownership ensuring GAAP compliance, AI integration for automating workflows, and strategic partnership with leadership for decision-making.

Requirements

10+ years of accounting experience
At least 4 years owning the close at a high-growth, venture-backed startup.
Personally implemented or operated an AI-native ERP
Comfortable navigating Brex, Bill.com, Stripe, Justworks, and QBO.
Genuine appetite for hands-on work; willingness to do, automate, and teach the close process.
Ability to dig until numbers make sense, dot every 'i' and cross every 't', while understanding the 'so what' behind the data.

Experience operating across multiple legal entities (including PC structures).
Experience preparing a startup for its first institutional audit.

Responsibilities

Build and execute accounting processes through heavy automation, moving away from manual entries and toward real-time financial visibility.
Own the results of the people, processes, and systems, ensuring revenue recognition and GAAP policies are impeccable.
Treat AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) as part of your daily operating environment, finding new ways to automate reconciliations, flux analysis, and all accounting workflows.
Act as a true business partner to the CEO, CFO, and the full leadership team using financial insights to help Honeydew make better and faster decisions.
Run the RFP and implementation for a new, AI-native ERP, integrating it with our entire modern finance stack (Brex, Stripe, Bill.com, etc.).
Successfully transition our full accounting function from our outsourced firm to internal ownership utilizing our new finance stack.
Re-engineer our processes and data integrations to reduce the monthly close to Business Day 10 and then build a path to Business Day 5 or better.
