About The Position

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Accounting will serve as a key financial and operational leader within a fast-growing, vertically integrated real estate platform. This individual will oversee all corporate and property-level accounting functions, lead a multi-person accounting team, and drive the timely and accurate financial reporting of a large multi-entity real estate portfolio. The ideal candidate is a highly technical accounting professional with significant multi-property real estate experience, strong leadership capabilities, and a proven ability to operate within a high-volume, deadline-driven environment. This role requires a hands-on leader capable of managing approximately 75–100 monthly entity/property closes within a 5-business-day close cycle while simultaneously overseeing treasury management, lender reporting, process improvement initiatives, and team development. This position plays a critical role in supporting executive leadership, operational decision-making, lender relationships, and the continued scalability of the organization. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive accounting leadership experience within a multi-entity real estate environment.
  • Required experience within self-storage, multifamily, hospitality, commercial real estate, REITs, or other multi-property platforms.
  • Proven experience managing high-volume monthly closes across numerous entities/properties.
  • Demonstrated success managing and developing accounting teams of 6 or more employees.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and deep understanding of US GAAP.
  • Extensive experience with lender reporting, banking relationships, treasury management, and financial compliance reporting.
  • Advanced financial statement analysis and P&L review capabilities.
  • Experience creating and implementing SOPs, internal controls, and scalable accounting processes.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.
  • Experience with multi-entity accounting systems and ERP platforms strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all corporate and property-level accounting operations across a large multi-entity real estate portfolio.
  • Direct and manage the monthly financial close process for approximately 75–100 entities/properties, ensuring completion within a 5-business-day close cycle.
  • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of all financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Review monthly financial statements, general ledgers, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Perform detailed P&L review and variance analysis, identifying trends, anomalies, operational risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Deliver timely and meaningful financial reporting and analysis to executive leadership to support strategic decision-making.
  • Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
  • Oversee weekly cash flow forecasting and entity liquidity management across the portfolio.
  • Manage vendor disbursements, bill payment processes, debt service coordination, and cash prioritization.
  • Monitor bank accounts, lender reserves, and operating cash requirements.
  • Partner with executive leadership regarding liquidity planning and cash management strategy.
  • Prepare and review monthly and quarterly lender reporting packages, compliance reporting, borrowing base support, and covenant deliverables.
  • Serve as a primary accounting contact for banks, lenders, auditors, and external financial partners.
  • Support refinancing activities, acquisitions, dispositions, and due diligence efforts.
  • Coordinate and support annual audits, tax preparation, and external financial reviews.
  • Lead, mentor, develop, and manage a team of accounting professionals in a high-accountability environment.
  • Establish clear performance expectations, accountability measures, and professional development initiatives.
  • Delegate responsibilities appropriately while maintaining oversight of departmental deliverables and deadlines.
  • Foster a collaborative, positive, and solutions-oriented accounting culture.
  • Lead accounting onboarding and integration of newly acquired properties, entities, and financing structures.
  • Drive accounting technology initiatives, automation opportunities, and system integrations to improve efficiency and scalability.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, internal controls, SOPs, and workflow documentation.
  • Partner cross-functionally with operations, acquisitions, asset management, HR, and executive leadership to improve reporting and workflows.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
