About The Position

HAPO Community Credit Union is seeking an ambitious, self-motivated Director of Accounting who strives to represent HAPO’s core commitment “Be in the Moment” and delivers service that will “Defy Expectations.” Ideal candidates will have working knowledge of General Ledgers and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and working knowledge of Payroll systems. They will have strong sense of urgency, responsibility and accountability. Candidates will also have strong organizational skills and the ability to handle oneself in stressful situations. Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with multi-functional team members are required. The ideal candidate will possess not only the skills identified for this current role but also the strategic foresight, capacity, and desire to move into higher level management opportunities within the credit union that may arise in the future.

Requirements

  • A 4-year degree from a college or university, either a B.A. or B.S. in accounting or finance
  • Minimum 5-8 years of experience at a managerial or supervisory position
  • Working knowledge of General Ledgers and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Working knowledge of Payroll systems
  • Strong sense of urgency, responsibility and accountability
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to handle oneself in stressful situations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to interact effectively with multi-functional team members

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certification (CPA)
  • Experience in a credit union or similar financial institution preferred

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the VP of Accounting and Finance – Controller and CFO to execute organizational business goals and financial strategies.
  • Lead and oversee all accounting operations, including the following: Maintenance of the General Ledger and interface with the Credit Union’s core banking system, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets and Prepaid Items, Bi-Weekly Payroll Processing, Monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, Financial reporting and variance analysis.
  • Coordinate and support internal and external audits, including financial, 401(k), and pension plan audits.
  • Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies and procedures, and required training.
  • Drive continuous improvement of accounting processes, systems, and controls to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Lead, develop, and motivate staff while ensuring accountability, strong communication, and adherence to organizational standards.
