About The Position

Seva Dental Team is seeking an experienced accounting leader for the Director of Accounting & Administration role. This position reports directly to the CEO and is responsible for leading accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and key administrative functions. It is a hands-on role with one direct report, requiring the ability to both set direction and execute tasks. The role is crucial in building the financial infrastructure to support a growing, multi-practice organization, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and financial soundness. The position offers the opportunity to shape Seva's operational processes, create stronger systems, reduce manual work, and provide essential financial support to leaders and practices. While the long-term intention is for this to be a full-time role, Seva is open to considering candidates who prefer to start part-time and transition to full-time as the organization grows, with the transition details to be mutually agreed upon.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • At least seven years of progressive accounting experience
  • Experience managing or developing at least one accounting team member
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, account reconciliation, and internal controls
  • Experience leading month-end and year-end close processes
  • Experience with audits and multi-entity accounting
  • Strong working knowledge of accounts payable, journal entries, general ledger accounting, and high-volume transaction processing
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail without losing sight of the larger business objective
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both financial and nonfinancial audiences
  • Willingness to remain directly involved in the day-to-day accounting work
  • Must reside in Michigan or Ohio and be able to travel periodically to Seva practices in both states

Responsibilities

  • Personally lead and execute key accounting activities across a growing, multi-entity organization
  • Oversee the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, account reconciliations, payroll coordination, and month-end and year-end close
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP
  • Develop, maintain, and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Partner with executive leadership on budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and strategic planning
  • Manage cash flow, working capital, and key financial performance metrics
  • Coordinate audits, tax filings, and relationships with external accounting, tax, and advisory partners
  • Manage lending relationships and ensure timely, accurate reporting to financial institutions
  • Identify discrepancies, unusual results, and emerging concerns and bring them forward with clear recommendations
  • Translate financial information into practical, actionable insights for leaders across the organization
  • Lead key administrative functions, including vendor management, contract administration, insurance programs, and internal financial processes
  • Partner with HR to support payroll, benefits, and other team member-related financial processes
  • Evaluate accounting workflows and identify opportunities to reduce manual work through automation and better system integration
  • Improve tools and processes to increase accuracy, efficiency, and scalability
  • Establish consistent processes across practices and business entities while accounting for the realities of a growing organization
  • Build systems that can support continued growth and future acquisitions without creating unnecessary complexity
  • Manage, mentor, and support one direct report
  • Serve as a trusted financial partner to the CEO and executive leadership team
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, HR, Clinical Leadership, IT, doctors, and practice leaders
  • Build relationships with practice teams through regular communication and periodic office visits
  • Support acquisitions, integrations, and system implementations
  • Help newly acquired practices transition into Seva’s financial systems and processes
  • Deliver responsive, service-minded support to the practices we serve
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements
  • Identify financial, operational, and compliance risks and recommend practical mitigation strategies
  • Manage organizational insurance programs and evaluate coverage needs
  • Safeguard sensitive financial information and maintain strong controls over systems, accounts, and organizational assets
  • Maintain appropriate documentation, controls, and reporting across the organization
