About The Position

The Director of Academic Support Services is a key member of the Center for Medical Student Success, reporting to the Senior Assistant Dean of Student Advancement. This role is responsible for developing and delivering comprehensive academic support services designed to promote medical student learning, persistence, and success. The Director plays a pivotal role in identifying students in academic difficulty, creating intervention strategies, and providing one-on-one and group academic coaching and resources aligned with the College's values and mission.

Requirements

  • Evidence-based strategies to improve study skills, test-taking, time management, and content retention.
  • Design and implementation of structured support plans for at-risk students.
  • Coordination of academic workshops, peer tutoring, and academic enrichment programs.
  • Partnership with faculty, advisors, and student services staff to identify students in academic difficulty early and develop individualized learning plans.
  • Accurate and confidential documentation of academic interventions, including progress tracking and outcomes assessment.
  • Development and ongoing enhancement of programming related to academic milestones, including COMLEX/USMLE board exam preparation.
  • Data collection and assessment of academic support services.
  • Knowledge of learning theory, academic counseling best practices, and the academic needs of medical students.

Responsibilities

  • Provides academic coaching and support for medical students, focusing on evidence-based strategies to improve study skills, test-taking, time management, and content retention.
  • Assists in the design and implementation of structured support plans for at-risk students in collaboration with the Senior Assistant Dean of Student Advancement.
  • Supports the Senior Assistant Dean with the coordination of academic workshops, peer tutoring, and academic enrichment programs within the Center for Medical Student Success.
  • Partners with faculty, advisors, and student services staff to identify students in academic difficulty early and develop individualized learning plans.
  • Maintains accurate and confidential documentation of academic interventions, including progress tracking and outcomes assessment.
  • Supports the development and ongoing enhancement of programming related to academic milestones, including COMLEX/USMLE board exam preparation.
  • Engages in data collection and assessment of academic support services to promote continuous improvement and alignment with institutional goals.
  • Serves as a knowledgeable resource on learning theory, academic counseling best practices, and the academic needs of medical students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Senior Assistant Dean of Student Advancement and the Associate Dean of medical Education.
