About The Position

The Association of the United States Army (AUSA) is seeking an experienced Director of Noncommissioned Officer and Soldier Programs (NCO & Soldier Programs). This is a civilian position and does not require military experience. The position will report directly to the Vice President, NCO & Soldier Programs. AUSA offers a 37.5-hour work week with a shortened workday on Fridays and a hybrid remote work schedule. This role is a principal assistant in the planning, direction, and oversight of the operations and fiscal health of the Directorate of Noncommissioned Officer and Soldier Programs. The Director serves as a liaison officer and membership promotion representative to the association's 122 chapters and all global Army units. This role requires approximately 90 days of travel annually to report on association activities, develop new members, and improve chapter operations. The travel itinerary demands flexibility and knowledge about the association, current legislation, and Army components impacting soldiers and their families. The Director maintains a communication network with Army leaders, chapter leaders, soldiers, families, DOD civilians, retired soldiers, veterans, and friends of the Army.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Extensive working knowledge with the United States Army.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes the duties of Vice President of NCO and Soldier Programs in their absence.
  • Serves as a coordinator and advisor on all matters relating to membership promotion and retention of noncommissioned officers and soldiers.
  • Provides recommendations for improving AUSA's actions and programs affecting noncommissioned officers and junior enlisted soldiers.
  • Coordinates visits in support of the Association's Chapters and Army organizations for the Vice President of NCO and Soldier Programs.
  • Communicates with Region and Chapter Vice Presidents for NCO and Soldier Programs to assist, coach, and mentor Chapter programs.
  • Principal assistant in preparation of the annual NCO and Soldier Programs Directorate budget.
  • Provides weekly close-out roll-up to the VP of NCO and Soldier Programs of all working and upcoming tasks/travel.
  • Performs biweekly calendar scrub with the entire team of upcoming events, travel, and PTO.
  • Writes monthly AUSA Extra Article highlighting chapter engagements, LPDs, and travel.
  • Writes monthly AUSA Insider Newsletter highlighting internal engagements/travel and team achievements.
  • Prepares Board of Directors slides.
  • Attends monthly Director's meeting with AUSA Chief of Staff.
  • Oversees the Association's noncommissioned officer and soldier awards programs, provides comprehensive list to the Sergeant Major of the Army's (SMA's) office, and instructs in travel coordination for the Annual Meeting.
  • Oversees the Noncommissioned Officer and Soldier Programs web page, ensuring updates are completed post Annual Meeting and throughout the year.
  • Oversees the production of the bi-weekly Soldier Today e-letter.
  • Briefs and updates attendees during New Chapter President's Training and trains employees on content to brief.
  • Briefs and updates attendees during New Chapter Leader Training and trains employees on content to brief.
  • Maintains constant contact with principal noncommissioned officers of all components of the Army to exchange information and encourage support.
  • Meets with the SMA and/or his office staff frequently and monthly from July leading into the AUSA Annual Meeting.
  • Attends designated Region meetings to report on activities, identify and resolve problem areas, and obtain recommendations for association staffing.
  • Receives and responds to requests for information and assistance from chapter leaders, Army leaders and soldiers, media, and the general public.
  • Plans and coordinates all chapter and leader development travel for the VP, NCO and Soldier Programs.
  • Coordinates the agenda with all stakeholders, uploads all coordination into SharePoint, and activities into the calendar.
  • Presents the AUSA Annual Writing Award to the honored recipient graduating from the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy.
  • Responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of all soldier activities coinciding with the Association's Annual Meeting.
  • Supports scheduling and travel support for the Vice President of NCO and Soldier Programs in support of approximately 6 noncommissioned officer and soldier supported events.
  • Coordinates support for noncommissioned officer and soldier recognition events Army-wide through the National Association Headquarters or supporting Chapter level leaders in their support efforts.
