The Director, National Medical Value & Outcomes Liaisons (MVOLs) leads a high-performing national field medical team accountable for Medical Affairs engagement with priority population-based decision makers across complex national and strategic accounts. Customer segments include national and regional health plans, pharmacy benefit managers, group purchasing organizations, specialty pharmacies, health systems and integrated delivery networks, and state and federal stakeholders. This leader sets direction for medical account strategy and execution across the portfolio and pipeline, ensuring National MVOLs deliver timely, evidence-based clinical, economic and humanistic value engagements that support informed access, management and purchase-based decisions. The role partners closely with U.S. Medical, Health Outcomes, Epidemiology, Implementation Science, R&D, Market Access, ViiV Corporate Accounts Team (VCAT), ViiV Corporate Accounts Reimbursement Team (VCART), and other field medical leaders to provide a seamless and compliant customer experience. The successful candidate will combine scientific and business acumen with strong people leadership, executive presence and cross-functional influence. This individual will translate strategy into clear priorities, build processes that enable consistent execution, and create an inclusive, high-accountability culture focused on customer, patient and business impact.

Requirements

Pharm D or PhD or M.P.H. or M.S. or advanced medical degree & 5+ years’ experience working with US Payer or Institutional customers in a field-based medical role OR 5+ years of experience in a managed care or pharmaceutical setting
Matrix leadership experience working with stakeholders across Medical, Market Access and customer-facing teams.
Experience developing and executing strategic business or medical account plans with measurable objectives.
Experience with regulatory, legal and compliance requirements for field medical engagement.
Ability to travel, including overnight travel, up to 40% of the time
Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

Lead, coach, mentor and develop the National MVOL team to achieve high levels of scientific engagement, medical account leadership, performance and professional growth
Recruit, develop and retain key talent, building a diverse, inclusive and high-performing organization with a strong succession and capability plan.
Provide clear direction, prioritization and performance expectations, translating Medical Affairs strategy into measurable team objectives and account-level impact.
Develop team members through coaching, candid feedback, development planning and stretch opportunities that strengthen capability and readiness for future roles.
Model strong people leadership, sound judgment, accountability and resilience in a fast-paced, evolving healthcare environment.
Build an operating model that promotes consistent execution, continuous improvement, knowledge sharing and best-practice adoption across national and regional medical account teams.
Own the direction, integration and execution of the National MVOL strategy, medical account plans, tactics and resource allocation across prioritized national and strategic accounts.
Ensure account plans are grounded in customer evidence needs, access and reimbursement dynamics, portfolio priorities, pipeline readiness and the evolving U.S. healthcare ecosystem.
Provide oversight of high-impact scientific and value engagements with medical influencers and decision makers, including C-suite and D-suite stakeholders.
Ensure the team appropriately supports formulary and population-health decision making through transparent, balanced and timely communication of clinical, economic and humanistic evidence.
Guide engagement on near-term pipeline assets to understand customer priorities, evidence gaps and planning needs while informing future access and value strategies.
Use scientific, customer and performance data to identify opportunities, remove barriers and strengthen execution across the national account landscape.
Partner with Market Access and customer-facing account leaders to establish clear roles, coordinated account strategy and appropriate medical/commercial ways of working that preserve Medical independence and create a seamless customer experience.
Align with U.S. Medical, R&D, Health Outcomes, Epidemiology, Implementation Science and other matrix partners to bring fit-for-purpose expertise and solutions to complex customer needs.
Work with field medical leaders to ensure continuity of account relationships, coordinated stakeholder engagement and clear ownership across national, regional and local account levels.
Influence Medical Affairs and cross-functional decisions by bringing forward actionable medical voice-of-the-customer insights, marketplace trends and evidence needs.
Lead or contribute to functional and cross-functional initiatives that strengthen field medical capabilities, operating effectiveness and business impact.
Maintain and ensure team expertise in HIV, ViiV medicines and pipeline assets, health outcomes and economic evidence, treatment and prevention strategies, and relevant competitive dynamics.
Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the U.S. healthcare ecosystem, including payer and health-system dynamics, reimbursement, benefit design, population health, quality measures, healthcare informatics and evolving evidence expectations.
Ensure robust engagement with external experts and population-based decision makers to gather insights, assess collaborative opportunities and advance high-quality scientific exchange.
Oversee appropriate identification and facilitation of evidence-generation and real-world evidence opportunities in partnership with internal research teams.
Act with urgency, uphold commitments and ensure customer needs are addressed through the appropriate medical and scientific resources.
Establish meaningful performance indicators that evaluate the quality, impact and strategic value of medical account engagement, not activity alone.
Analyze team, account and marketplace data to generate actionable insights and adjust priorities, deployment and capability plans.
Ensure National MVOLs are trained and field-ready on scientific content, value evidence, account planning, executive engagement and core industry compliance standards.
Champion disciplined account planning, insight documentation, follow-through and knowledge sharing while simplifying processes that do not advance customer, patient or business outcomes.
Partner across Medical Affairs to develop resources and scalable approaches that improve execution and reduce unnecessary duplication.
