About The Position

The Office of Multicultural Ministries addresses the pastoral needs of the Diocese and the goals articulated in the pastoral letter of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Welcoming the Stranger Among Us, Unity and Diversity. The Office is a center for outreach and evangelism to connect and serve ethnic communities within the Diocese. The Director oversees all activities of the Office, responds to issues as they develop and serves as a resource for all cultures within the Diocese.

Requirements

Must be a fully initiated and practicing Catholic, able to participate in the full sacramental life of the Church.
Knowledge and understanding of Catholic Church doctrine
Must be well acquainted with and sensitive to diverse cultures, their spiritual devotions and traditions, and the Church’s ability to support their pastoral needs

An active listener with strong written and oral communication, facilitation, and presentation skills, including the ability to articulate ideas clearly, concisely and professionally

Ability to create basic documents, spreadsheets, presentations and emails using MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required (religious education or theology preferred).
Must maintain a current driver’s license.
Five years’ experience in diocesan ministry at either the parish or diocesan level that includes working with multicultural communities.
Previous supervisory and budget preparation experience required.

Responsibilities

On behalf of the Bishop, engages and collaborates with ethnic communities to support the development and strengthening of their identities within the Diocese, while facilitating connections to parish and diocesan opportunities for worship, prayer, and celebration of the Catholic faith.
Plans, organizes, and executes events and leads liturgical celebrations sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Ministries on behalf of the Bishop.
Collaborates with ethnic organizations and communities in developing programs, resources and projects that further the vision of multicultural ministry.
Collaborates with other diocesan offices on new initiatives to promote multicultural ministries.
Regularly communicates with priests and other pastoral leaders throughout the Diocese to identify and promote opportunities for the legitimate spiritual devotions and traditions of the diverse Catholic cultures represented in the Diocese.
Leads the planning and coordination of meetings for the Advisory Council on Racism and the Multicultural Ministry Council, including developing agendas and recording and distributing meeting minutes.
Promotes an increased awareness of the ethnic strengths and diversity within the Diocese by maintaining the Office’s presence on the diocesan web site.
Conducts local speaking engagements and workshops.
Selects, develops, evaluates, and leads 1 supporting staff member.
Develops, tracks, and controls the office budget.
