About The Position

Florida SouthWestern State College is seeking a Director, Media Relations and Content to lead the College's media relations, editorial content development, and executive communications initiatives. This role operates under the strategic direction of the Managing Director of Communications and External Affairs, focusing on institutional storytelling and media engagement. The director will be responsible for news releases, institutional publications, executive communications, social media, web content, and feature storytelling. Collaboration with the Managing Director is key to implementing communications initiatives that are accurate, timely, aligned with institutional priorities, and reflective of the College's mission and voice. The position involves developing high-quality content for various audiences, managing daily media relations, overseeing executive and presidential communications projects, and coordinating the editorial planning and production of the College magazine and related publications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, English, marketing, or a related field.
  • Seven (7) years of progressively responsible, full-time professional work experience in communications, media relations, journalism, public relations, marketing, content strategy, or a related area.
  • Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and storytelling skills, including experience developing press releases, feature stories, executive communications, web content, and social media content.
  • Strong judgment, discretion, attention to detail, and ability to handle confidential or sensitive information appropriately.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with AP Style or other professional editorial standards.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the College's media relations, editorial content development, and executive communications initiatives.
  • Provides professional leadership for institutional storytelling and media engagement.
  • Develops high-quality content for internal and external audiences.
  • Leads day-to-day media relations activities.
  • Manages assigned executive and presidential communications projects.
  • Coordinates the editorial planning and production of the College magazine and related publications.
