Summary The Director of Marketing & Communications is a strategic leader responsible for developing, executing, and monitoring comprehensive marketing, branding, and communication strategies for a large, multi-site Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and its affiliated entities. Supporting an organization with over 500 employees, a $100M annual budget, 20 physical locations, and 26 school-based behavioral health programs, this role is critical to driving patient acquisition, community engagement, and brand equity. This individual will design and execute integrated campaigns promoting our diverse clinical service lines (Family Practice, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, Dental, Optometry, retail Pharmacy, Behavioral Health, and rehab recovery). Additionally, the Director will oversee branding and messaging alignment across the FQHC’s unique portfolio, including its Real Estate LLC, Pharmacy LLC, subsidiary 501(c)(3) recovery unit, and philanthropic Foundation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive marketing experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial or director-level capacity.
  • Direct experience in healthcare marketing (hospital system, FQHC, large medical group, or community health network) is highly preferred.
  • Solid understanding of HIPAA compliance, patient privacy regulations, and healthcare marketing ethics.
  • Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) and other applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in business administration (MBA), healthcare administration, or a related field.
  • Experience managing marketing strategies for multi-entity corporate structures (e.g., healthcare foundations, retail pharmacies, and clinical sites).
  • Bi-lingual skills (English/Spanish or other regional demographic languages) are a strong asset.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, protect, and evolve a unified brand identity that spans the core FQHC clinical services, school partnerships, and affiliate entities (Pharmacy LLC, rehab recovery, and the Foundation).
  • Ensure consistent design, messaging, and tone across all physical sites, digital properties, and print collateral.
  • Collaborate with the Foundation to design and support marketing strategies for donor development, capital campaigns, and fundraising events.
  • Develop and execute annual marketing plans aimed at growing patient volume across primary care, dental, optometry, and specialty services.
  • Formulate targeted marketing strategies to promote specialized operations, such as the retail in-house pharmacy, mail-order/delivery options, and the rehab recovery unit.
  • Utilize data-driven approaches to track, analyze, and report on the return on investment (ROI) of marketing campaigns and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Oversee all digital assets, including the organization's website, search engine optimization (SEO), local search presence for all physical locations, and social media channels.
  • Direct public relations, media outreach, and crisis communications, serving as the primary media contact and spokesperson when needed.
  • Create high-quality, patient-centric content (videos, patient stories, blogs, newsletters) that highlights the organization’s mission and impact.
  • Partner with the clinical and operations teams to maximize the visibility of the behavioral health programs in our supported schools.
  • Coordinate grassroots community outreach campaigns, health fairs, and collaborative regional events across our service area.
  • Build and sustain relationships with community leaders, school boards, advocacy groups, and local stakeholders.
  • Ensure all marketing activities and materials comply with HIPAA, HRSA requirements, healthcare advertising laws, and patient privacy standards.
  • Establish internal communication protocols to ensure our employees remain informed of organization-wide updates, brand initiatives, and program expansions.
