About The Position

We are looking for a Director, Marketing Chemical Intermediates to join our Intermediates team in Houston, TX. The Intermediates division offers innovative solutions for a wide range of industries – from coatings and plastics to pharmaceuticals and crop protection. The Director of Marketing is responsible for managing the portfolio of specialty and commodity products within BASF’s Intermediates division, a multimillion dollars business in the Americas. The role includes direct leadership of a team consisting of product and strategic marketing managers to ensure the successful execution of business unit strategies and innovation targets. In this position, you will provide the business plan for the management of our "Verbund-based" production assets in Geismar, LA and Freeport, TX as well as imported products from Europe and Asia, addressing the needs of 3rd party customers in the Americas, BASF’s internal divisions and affiliates. The Director of Marketing also plays a strategic role in business process improvement and business model design and implementation for the Chemical Intermediates business unit.

Requirements

  • A Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Engineering or related field (Advanced degree preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in Product Management.
  • Managing large commodity products or value chains with a high degree of complexity.
  • A strong business acumen, and in depth understanding of market structures, economics, growth, trends, opportunities, value chain, customers, and competitive environment.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, working effectively in an international, diverse team environment.
  • Proven people leadership, people management and teamwork experience.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills along with an exemplary customer focus.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities

  • Possessing Profit and Loss (P&L) responsibility for the business and managing it from a stringent financial perspective ensuring it earns a premium on the cost of capital.
  • Providing coaching and direction of the product management and marketing teams
  • Identifying, coaching, developing and managing talent development strategy for the business and contribute to the Intermediates division’s talent management effort.
  • Developing and implementing regional strategies for three distinct strategic business units within Intermediates, to drive profitable growth.
  • Serving as regional representative in global business steering teams to define operational and strategic steering for key product portolios
  • Providing guidance and negotiation strategies for the sales team by sharing competitive knowledge to ensure strategic principles are being followed and margins are acceptable.
  • Identifying measures to expand product range or business (investments, collaborations, acquisitions) and leading economic evaluation as well as assessment to determine fit.
  • Driving productivity initiatives for the value chain via production, supply chain and other cost areas.
  • Representing the Americas business unit in the Intermediates division’s global teams, including Sales and Operation Planning, global business meetings, global strategy meetings.
  • Defining and leading the management of relations with key business partners (industry players, suppliers, co-producers and customers).
  • Building strong relationships with global key accounts that are based within the region.
  • Developing and maintaining a pipeline of innovation projects (products, processes, applications). Ensure strategic and economic evaluation of ideas and drive execution of projects meeting the unit’s requirements.
